I am thinking about getting her her very own dressage saddle as she is using my other mare's at the moment which does not fit brilliantly. She requires a wide fitting, and I am either 17.5" or will also fit comfortably on a 18" (the one I have is 18, although I also ride in a 17.5").

Thanks,

Rebecca x

I tried loads of them, and my fav was an Albion Style on my boy.... but i see you're selling yours so prob not a fan!?

Just fitted me and the boy the best. Cliff Barnsby was also lovely....

Ridden in a fair few now but still like my wow the best

Thing is, I think saddles are such a personal thing that what one person loves, another can't stand. I generally agree with most things Katb writes and I'd steal her horsey in an instant but I have a deep dislike for Albions

I've always loved Barnsby saddles but my most recent Dressage is one designed by my local saddler herself and made by ideal and it is gorgeous and was cheep too! Odd's on though it doesn't fit new horse.
I also originally loved dressage saddles that weren't too padded and didn't sit me in a position to much but now I find I much prefer them as I need all the help I can get no a days!

So to be honest find a saddler who will come out with a vast range for you and your horse to try.

Heather Moffatt. Puts you in the correct position, has a built in seatbone saver that stops me getting back ache, french panels give great shoulder freedom for the horse, got it made to measure for £800.

Lol! I dislike albions as a rule too, but I tried everything from bates to Ideals to Jaguars... most are too "big" on ickle Goddy horse!! The albion was just right

Cos he's all ickly and short backed just as i like them *nudge nudge* :P

If its any consolation though, I had the exact same problem with mine :P Saddler commented that he'd never seen a horse of his height with such a short back :|

LoL! Your welcome to him!!

But yes, saddles are a very personal thing! And it is amazing how much different saddles can "feel" on different horses.....

IDEAL!!! of course

The new Suzannah 1650 is flying out the door currently not had one bad report back. i've just had mine made to measure slightly more forward cut for my long legs and 171/2 and its amazing.
Don't forget Ideal can make any alterations to get exact fit for you and your horse - and make bespoke saddles with dif top and bottoms etc.
Good sales pitch?? I just love this company and the products and so lucky to have job here.
check out www.idealsaddle.com see how many times you can spot me and Bud!!!

I adore my Albion SLK Ultima.

It's like an armchair, and the comfiest saddle I've ever done flatwork in (not the best for hacking long distance on an extra wide horse though!

George is long backed though, and generally big proportioned being heavyweight. Looking at the dimensions of the saddle and considering little would change on a finer type horse, I can imagine it would look like a tractor then!

Heather Moffett Fhoenix!! Stupidl comfy for the rider, (you just melt into the seat and it moulds to your bum and) it puts you into the correct position and has helped my position on other saddles so much! And it's comfy for the horse. They're well worth a look

Do you have to keep rubbing it in that you have one!!!

I want one!

lol

I'd defintely have a Heather Moffett Fheonix, if not then a WOW. My friend does BD and her horse has completely changed for the better since having a WOW.

mines a Passier Grand Gilbert, lovely deep seat with not too large knee rolls. Cost about £1500 new but paid £650 for an 18month old one. My boys also a wide fit and short back and this fits him perfectly without slipping.

Thanks everyone... I have an Albion SLK Ultima on her at the moment but it is a
M/W fitting for Hannah and is just a temporary solution until I knew what I was doing with her.

The Style on is fab, but it does not fit her very well. Having someone coming up to look at it actually next week to see whether it could fit her now she is MINE! (It still has not sunk in properly

Took my boy to Derby House (not far from you) last August and they had a lovely range of saddles, new and second-hand, you could go for a pre-visit without Grace and sit in a few and then take her along to get the one's you've selected tried on her. They have a little arena so you can try them there and tehn. Alternatively they come out to you as well and I found their service very good.

Thanks... was thinking of giving them a call if George is still there, or there is a lady I have been using to fit the ones I have, and she seems very good.

I love my HM Fhoneix and wouldn't want anything else now, however my friend has recently bought one of the Bates Innova saddles and she loves it. Horse goes very well in it and as it's adjustable is good for young horses prone to changing shape and muscling up.

Unfortunately you cant get them anymore but Pessoa did a dressage saddle years ago, more geared towards the event horse, very flat seat but fab to ride in....my mare changed shape and i had to sell it to pay for my new one and i think its the worst mistake i made...miss it so much!
