What is your gallop speed?

I have just tracked my hack with my Viewranger app and clocked 37.1 MPH top speed on our gallop! It did feel very very fast, has anyone else timed their top speed?

I'd love to try timing it! I have galloped (more been taken off with ) on exracer and over taken cars on parrel rode. I like to think they were doing at least 70 :D

I'm beginning to wonder how accurate my app is - she is a thoroughbred and we think off the track before polo and it was her top speed and partly downhill - and not like a mile even just the very long field. still impressive though

Would think a fit TB ex-racer, L/W rider, good going, downhill, could touch that speed for a short stretch... Wow...points on your license?:p

My friend clocked 39mph and we raced passed her :D After that gallop the adrenalin was amazing, you really felt alive!

when i was younger, to get my confidence up about going fast my dad used race me in his truck across the farm...Lucy could stay ahead of him at 40mph and shes only 13'2 ....

Now i ride her daughter and we thought we'd have a bit of fun... when we finished (we won) Dad said he was going roughly 45mph :D at 13'3 Kittys a chip off the old block. :D

according to the old google

'The highest race speed recorded over two furlongs is 70.76 km/h (43.97 mph) and was achieved by Winning Brew trained by Francis Vitale (United States), at the Penn National Race Course, Grantville, Pennsylvania, United States, on 14 May 2008.'

I thought the fastest a horse could go was about 30mph

I'm convinced my mare trots at 30mph, cars always have trouble over taking us haha!! not timed it but did once gallop along a train line and was faster than the train, but it was slowing down to come into the station that was about a mile ish away! she's defo the fast horse I've ever ridden!

I've just come back from the Thoroughbred Training Centre in Kentucky where they train flat racers and they said as a ball park figure they gallop at about 30mph.

Someone in the audience mentioned they thought the speed was more like 50mph and the trainer laughed and said no it's definitely more like 30mph.

Previous to today I have consistently logged my girl's gallop speed as 27 - 29 MPH BUT that was up a pretty steep hill! This is the first time I have logged her on the flat / downhill. Her canter speed is 17MPH ( very civilized and collected - to 20 MPH - trying to keep her in check and stop her from drifting into gallop) Do those speeds sound accurate? Or is Viewranger not the best app to try and monitor her speed?

Um, 3.2 minutes/mile we peaked at the other day but not entirely sure that is his fastest and have no idea how to convert that to speed!!

Just worked it out. Frankly we need to work on speed - 18mph :D

Or the maths is wrong as that seem awfully slow, even for a horse with short legs lumping me around!

Raced the quad bike across the field today with just a racing saddle and no stirrups (long story!) and reached 45mph...! Crazy speeds haha

There's an app to see how fast you go?!

Ned can go bloomin' fast. I once raced the ex racer and we were equal :D
However, once I raced an ISH and he left me in the dust!! He should have raced! Probably not allowed, but who cares! He'd have thrashed them :D

Before being so rude, maybe note that this was a very quick sprint across a field, not the entire length of a derby? Crikey, no need to be so sarcastic!

"The highest race speed recorded over two furlongs"

I did not go two furlongs
Happy now or do you want to bitch about something else?

Good God, don't be so bloody touchy? And assuming you did travel at that speed I am sure you walked your ground before galloping and made sure your horse was fit and well for such exertion? *typed in a sarcastic tone*

Bloomin heck! - just sat here quietly reading this thread and it all went tits up in about 0-50mph... about as fast as your racehorse apparently.

i really think you might have misconstrued the other poster you're calling a bitch here as i didnt read her post as anything to especially get your knickers in a tizz over.

Cool your boots.

Endonmondo does it (plots your route too) http://www.endomondo.com/home

27mph is my haflinger's top speed (my 11.2 pony's fastest is 28mph) but a steady gallop for my TB. lol.

Here is my last hack http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/198657612/3298630 , The 28mph was up a steep hill.
