What is your routine after exercise?

sponge off if sweated up...offer water...chuck in stable

A good ten minute walk off to cool down, a sponge down if its really cold or hosepipe shower if warm enough..... sweat scrapered...... allowed to roll...... and once dry rugs back on..... never wet them enough to warrant them getting cold....

Later in day, flick over with brush, wipe all over with warm cloth and mane combed through and then laid flat with water brush.... eye;s nose and bum cleaned.... and thats about it!

not clipped at the mo, but after riding wash down, tack away cooler on then if still not dry by time i have to go put stable rug over the cooler and put horse in stable!

Depends, now if it's a warm day and they are sweaty then they get hosed off, if it's not a warm day they tend not to get sweaty and get chucked in the stable.

If they have been hunting and are a bit warm from travelling we leave them naked until they have cooled, dried off and then put there PJ's on.

chaser clipped, out 24/7 in MW t/o rug...

if sweating a lot, hose off neck and saddle patch and chuck on fleece rug then tie up and feed before rugging/turning out.

If just a bit damp, tie up, feed and then give quick brush off before rugging and turning out.

Usually clean tack while she eats [insert smug smile here

Proper wash down with warm water,
Then walk in hand around the field for 15-20 mins. Perhaps with a sweat rug on if cold. Am crazy about making sure that they are cooled down properly before tucking into bed.

Clipped horse - walk off, untack, brush, rug-up (stable or turnout depending on what time I ride)

Unclipped horse - as above but with when I'm brushing I sponge off any sweaty areas.

I have to wash/ sponge off all sweat, am really funny about leaving any on. If its sunny athen chuck them outside for an hour to dry then rug, if cold put a cooler on till dry enough to put turnout rug on then turn out. I cant leave a horse with sweat on to dry, never even considered doing it, but there we go, each to our own

Unclipped and no rugs (Bummer)!

I try and ride in the mornings if I am going to work him quite hard. Sponge off sweat and chuck him out in the field to roll and do whatever he wants to. At least he is dry by the afternoon.

During the week he is ridden in the afternoon so he is ridden quietly and doesn't get sweaty apart from girth and behind ears.

I don't have much time to faff but he manages quite well. Another great thing I have found with a horses coat is it works like a wicking rug.

(Oh gawd, I do sound like a crazy tree hugger don't I)?

My horse is full clip and sweats alot so straight after we're done i put on his sweat rug and then put him out in his feild for a roll and a wander then after 15 orso mins i bring him in and do his bed stuff.

both unclipped (until the weekend hopefully
grin.gif
) ride then walk round for at least 10-15 mins after finished work to cool down (useful time to make phone calls

) then if still hot chuck on thermatex wait about 10-15mins till dry then brush off put on overnight thin fleece feed and go home!

Personally I try to avoid washing them off if unclipped in the evenings purely as it is so cold at the moment (3 degrees tonight according to my car!)

When clipped will have similar routine although if very sweaty will sponge off with warm water as I know with thermatex will dry off far quicker as will have hunter clip and greatly reduce risk of them catching a chill.

God I love my thermatex it may be 7ft3 but it goes on everything (Fleur is only normally a 6ft3!!!) and really does work! oh yeah and even better it only cost me £15!!

i ride during my lunch, so untack, wash down with sponge and water, M/W rug on, back out to the field for hour or so. brought back in, M/W rug off, dried patches brushed off and rugged in PJ's for bed.

she is clipped

I try to ride in the afternoon, after riding i walk the school for 10/15 mins, wash the sweat off then dry the horse, rug up, leave in stable for a while with hay and water, pop horse into field, then later will bring in for the night, off to the pub....LOL

Fly clipped at moment so would sponge off, put thermatex on if cold and put in stable. If nice warm day, would sponge off and turn out in breathable rug till bedtime!

After hunting I always take a plastic canister and fill up with realy scalding water add some baby bath then wrap in a towel when I get back he is washed off with the now warm water saddle patch neck between legs and bridle patch (ears) then Thermatex on home all done rug on out in field if late and stabled then stable, everyone laughs at me they just chuck there horses on lorrys but it dosn't take 2 mins to do my little bit and he's all done when get home and dried off. also pick feet out at same time.

My horse doesn't really sweat unless he is being silly... at the mo he is unclipped (no hair tho!) so untack, brush off thoroughly, put on 1 rug and put him in his stable, go and sort myself out, put tack away etc, then go and put his PJ's on.
If he has been a bit silly or done lots of canter work and has got warm then I'd just sponge that area off before doing the above.

Blanketish clipped horse. At weekends I walk her the last 10 minutes of a hack, then untack, give her a carrot or some treats, stick on her TO rug, and throw her out in the field, where she normally has a drink.
During the week I school, so untack her, try and avoid being mugged, cope with about 5 minutes of being hassled for her tea, feed and put her rug on her. She's stabled in a fleece overnight, so dries off under it...

When my mare was with me and clipped i used to walk off (but not for too long as i think that walking a fully clipped horse round with no sheet on is madness) then untack, sponge/wash all sweat off (i like adding barrier hygines lavander wash to the water) and then sweat rug up - usually a fleece or 2 till dry (while i made up feeds/hay/skipped out/chatterd/gossiped) then brush down before night rugging

if i rode before turning out she'd have the same but dry off while i mucked out, T/O rug on and out last thing before i leave the yard. dont brush as shes going out - would strap up fully in the evening.
