If you have a few minutes, I'd appreciate your help.

For a few years I have been designing simple (non horsey) illustrations that I use for my business. Earlier this year, I expanded the sort of designs I usually sell and started with a small range of wildlife designs, which have been popular. I'm now working on ideas for a range of equestrian illustrations/paintings, and here's where I'd appreciate your views:

What style of equine art do you like?

What sort of horsey greetings cards or prints have you purchased and what attracted you to them?

I've not included any categories as I'd like your thoughts without my own ideas influencing your likes/dislikes.

Thanks in advance for your help.

My dad once bought me an acrylic painting of race horses done on a white background and the way it was painted wasn't abstract but the features weren't clearly defined either, so captured the atmosphere and speed and was done in bright colours- I haven't described it well but I adore it.
For greeting cards I really like the funny ones with simple sketch horses in situations like mobbing owner for a polo and speech marks from the horses mocking the owner, that sort of thing.

If it's done in a realistic/representational style the horse must not be deformed and I don't do twee.

RE funny cards, some are more successful than others. The one that I like the most (because it's completely based on reality and isn't forced in any way) is this one by Lesley Bruce.

Why not attach a sample of your stuff to the post and see what reaction it gets? Research not marketing......

I'm probably not a typical buyer, so not sure my views count for that much if you are looking to be commercial.

I have brought quiet a few cards with horses on over the years, a number have been for owners who have sadly lost there equine friend and when it comes to this i have been looking for a horse simpler to theirs.

but for birthdays and Christmas i often look for funny horse cards. Some thing that makes it more fun.

I love the Lesley Bruce prints and those in a similar style - I have a wall at the top of the stairs with quite a few... always room for some more though :)

Thanks everyone - your input is really appreciated.

I had wondered about the funny ones and have a few ideas along the lines of the stock phrases used by horse dealers, the one liners that clearly don't describe the horse they've just sold!

As to what I've already produced so far Turnbuckle, well nothing equine that is for business use, as I'm at the ideas stage. It's a matter of weeding out my ideas that may not appeal to customers.

My wildlife designs are realistic, rather than abstract and to be honest, I didn't realise that the market for them was as strong as I've found it to be and they sell better than my usual line... and I enjoy the work so much more.

I'm currently working on a coloured cob stallion picture - he's for me, rather than the business. He's not finished, but here he is so far:
