My friend may get a yearling we have seen. He'd be kept with my yearling and a pony companion. But of a pity case really, although I think there may be a sweet little horse in there at the end of it.
Yearling has been pulled off mum at 7 months and shut in a stable since then. He has been out of that stable 3 times - 1 of those was when we saw him. He is underweight and looks to have a wormy belly, although owner says she has wormed him. His feet aren't too bad - they have never been seen by a farrier and I am very suprised they aren't more overgrown since he has been shut in a stable for months. He looks like he has got a winter coat and it is very soft and fluffy - is this because of malnutrition? He is still entire and neither have dropped yet. He was very quiet and subdued - let you do anything with him without a fuss. He moves ok, but dishes in front. He is obviously unpassported and unvaccinated and very obviously farily cheap - asking £400 ono for him
I am not sure if she wants to buy him yet. Part of me want him to be bought so we can get him right, but the other part of me says once he has been passported, castrated, wormed, trimmed etc he will have cost the same as a cheap yearling without issues and he may have ongoing health problems - may as well spend a bit more.
Reason I am putting this in Vet is that I want to know if there is anything that could be wrong long term and anything we would need to do to him that i have overlooked? What would the chance of him having lice be? Never seen a horse who is infested so not sure what it looks like?
