What items of hi vis do you and your horse wear hacking?

I have a tabard and horse has boot covers that we wear all year round. In the winter I have a HiViz excercise sheet for horse to wear.

I just wear a high viz tabard. Depends on the weather as to what colour though. In winter tend to wear yellow, in summer, pink

In the summer we wear a hi viz vest, a yellow and orange breast plate, leg wraps and yellow ears. I've just bought some things for his reins too.

In winter we add an orange exercise sheet and minus the breastplate.

He is bright white though so I think that helps us stay visible too!

Hat band and tabard/gilet on me and neck band/breastplate and leg wraps on the horse. All yellow as that's what I have currently, but going to get some orange as soon as I find what I'm looking for.

Horse has either a hi-viz exercise sheet or a hi-viz fly sheet, both with chestband; leg wraps; and strips on reins (tried them on browband and noseband but he hated them). I have a vest, and a waterproof if it's raining; gloves and reflective wrist straps to make sure my signals are visible; and I used to have a hi-viz whip but, ironically, lost it somewhere.

It's all in a mix of pink, orange, and yellow, and I'd throw in even more colours if I could find them. I don't believe in matchy matchy when it comes to hi-viz!

I tend to go as overboard as I possibly can, on the grounds that he's dark bay, he can be a bit of a tit on the roads, and I don't own him.

Edit: Oh, and I usually wear those Harry Hall jodhs with the fluorescent yellow/reflective stripe down the leg.

I don't wear any high vis at all. But then I generally ride in forestry trails where there are no vehicles or other people and live in very low populated place.

I don't wear any. I only have to walk up a three minute country lane of which most of it is a no through road. I might consider it if I had to ride on proper roads

On the back of this - I wondered what sort of replies you gals get from people against Hi Viz.

I get these replies from others:

I hate it
Looks stupid
I am NOT wearing it
Makes no difference
Degrading.

So what comments do people say to you?

I don't give a toss what people say. No-one leaves my yard without hi-viz on. No discussion

having recently been hit by a car whilst out riding and had my leg broken - as much as possible!! lol
well when i get back on anyway

oh and Peter, when i got hit i was on the road for 50 yards, 50 damn yards and got hit!! actualy i went to a rider repsonsibilities talk just recently and they said you should consider wearing it all the time, so if there is any sort of accident you can be found more easily :-)

I always wear a tabard and Iv got a hat band, and Iv got a equisafety winter jacket for winter...bonus that they are so warm aswell!! Iv got martingale and leg wraps for pony but admittedly should put them on more.

I don't just wear it for the road...I ride on Dartmoor and heaven forbid I should have a bad accident I don't fancy peoples chances of finding me quickly without it.
If it makes people spot me on the floor or on board quicker Ill wear it!
I couldn't give a toss what I look like, I love my pony to absolute death and will do anything to make riding out safer for us. Iv nothing against people who choose not to wear it, each to their own, but personally its like putting my hat on, it just goes on as a routine before I go out.

I've got a Kramer voucher so I think I'll get these in pink https://m.kramer.co.uk/Reflective-L...kraemer-pferdesport.67-GB&pi=340184&ci=262556

I've got a yellow vest already.
If anyone has any suggestions I'm more than happy to listen to them. If anyone finds an led tail band online I will be very thankful.

You might find some on ebay Cobs, I know I've seen them somewhere when browsing, this is also great - http://www.equisafety.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=70&page=3

I have hi-vis breeches - excellent piece of kit...

works best when one wears no knickers... seems to slow drivers right down...

In summer:

Tabard
Hat cover
Whip
Leg reflectors on horse
Neck band
Reflectors on reins

In Winter:

Reflective fleece (like workmen wear - very warm and snuggly) or if raining, coat with reflective waistcoat over
Hat cover
Whip
Reflective leg bandages or straps - if you want to put on bandages, I find polo bandages the best - they also come in some garish colours - I have yellow and green
Wrap around exercise sheet
Neck band
Reflectors on reins

I also get comments on being very visible, particularly in the winter - someone once said I looked like I came from Chernobyl as I glowed!

This is what I want, to be very visible

I see people riding wearing just a tabard, and I don't think that is enough. I also remember seeing someone's fluorescent hat cover really clearly in the fog.

I wear a tabard and my hat has a fluorescent band and the horse wears 4 wrap round leg bands, 2 yellow and 2 pink. I think the leg bands are the best, as a driver sees the movement at their level. I must say that 99% of traffic slows down for my horse.

In very dull conditions/rain, I have a bright yellow fleece blanket.

.

I agree. If, god forbid, you got separated from your horse, i'm sure it'd be better for your horse to have some hi viz on it too!

A hat band/cover is on my list to buy (been so poor recently!) as I've heard people say drivers can see it over hedges and stuff so can give them more of warning :) I'm also tempted by a tail streamer for summer to go with his breastplate as he gets too warm in exercise sheets in the summer so we only wear them when it's cooler!

Dear god, aren't people thick sometimes? While driving I came across a lady dressed in dark clothing on a dark horse standing against a dark hedge, ranting about the fact that people didn't see her WTF!!

The road outside the yard is awful and dangerously fast so minimum tabard, hat band and exercise sheet - mesh now, fleece in winter..hi viz horse boots and tail guard go on in winter too. I think it's crazy nowadays for riders to be on the road with no hi viz. be seen to give road users a chance to be respectful at least!!

Weeelllllll.........................

It HAS come to the point where even dayglo discoware and Bertie Bassett attire has become a bit monotonous to the city drivers around here....

At the previous City-Horse-Riding-Guild of the 21st Century meeting we tested the following:

Yellow, Pink, Geen and Orange Hi-Vis with various "warnings" on the back.
Yellow sheets on horses and pink streamers in tails and ear muffs just got dog walkers all excited of a morning bless 'em.

Yesterday we had a conflab about he various conflagrations of democracy against horseriders and whether or not it was said in jest - we have come to some sort of agreement that perhaps the horses ought to become accustomed to drums and horns.

Some felt this was the only way to alert bus drivers, van drivers, bin lorry drivers and dog-drivers to our very existence (most of us a re barefoot these days so no more clippety-clop I'm afraid) and some even thought that red jackets and BEAR hats were probably an addition to safety.

After all.... none of the Queens horses have sort of trouble with traffic while wearing such attire... less so when banging a drum.

What say we have a revolution against the zombies?
