What jobs do we all have?

mental health support worker - i too would love to work with animals but i just couldnt afford to - most animal related positions have rubbish salaries !

I'm a Police Dog Handler..a fantastic job and i love it..its hard work but well worth it down side is shifts (especially nights)but they work well and give me plenty time with the horses luckly the family all muck in as we have our own little yard...Doing the horses on way home from a night shift is fun i usually dont remeber doing them Ha,ha

Any chance of a swap! lol

Done:) Temporarily.

I did think about the Army or the Police Force (family thing) when I was at college, but stupidly did my AI/SM after my NNEB instead. My mother was in the Police and my Grandpa was CC of Plymouth and Cornwall (a long time ago)

Sometimes I'd love to swap, being 40' up spraying a roof on a windy and very hot day (32C) sucks I can tell you. The upside of doing my own thing is that if friends come round and say "How d'you fancy.....?" I usually am able to down tools and go. Went to look at horses earlier.

Kharber21 you sound just like me. I'm on mat leave from Police at the mo and haven't enjoyed my job for a couple of years so I'm trying to find something else. Ideally, I'd want to work with animals but still need the same sort of income you wanted. I'd love to work for myself in some capacity even if it wasn;t with animals and then I could fit worj in around horses and dogs (and baby of course!). Let me know if you do try something else I'd love to hear how it goes.

RubyR, I can only find jobs in customer service or banks (I used to be a mortgage consultant) that pay about the same, im not a police officer I take Emergency calls and enquirys, but it's so repetative and the shifts are so long, im probably going to take one of the normal 9-5 customer service jobs just to get away from it, ive only been with them since march as well, it's a shame I thought id really like it, but didn't end up with the job I was ment to have anyway, they changed me to another roll as I was getting married in the middle of the training!

I used to be a groom (well, went through education, got a horsey degree, worked as a groom throughout all that and also for 18 months after). Worked too hard for too little money so I jacked that in to become an Administrator for a pensions company. That's all changing now though and I will officially be an "Account Executive" by November... but still, same jist. Office, word processing, signing letters, phones. Nothing interesting, but pays far more than any horsey job would for half the effort, and allows me to save for my first house. Does me. Maybe some time in the next five or ten years I'll have my own horse again :)

Ive done a bit of everything and now, instead of doing 'other peoples' horses,I have my own little yard. I have 10 boxes and have 10 full liveries, all retired for one reason or another. I also get called out to clip and trim other peeps horses and oversee other yards when owners are away. As Enfys said, its great to be able to down tools and do whatever, when you want. Wouldnt go back to normal 9 to 5 job if you paid me! lol

I have a home based business and also contract in Project Management. The business means I don't have to work full time in PMO which is great as it's very high pressured... especially at the moment as I work in the finance sector!

All the dogs or specific like sniffer dogs? Sound like a great job.:)

I work in our local super hospital within the CT department. I am a Radiographic Department Assistant and my job is very varied. Lots of patient contact, hand holding, back rubbing and making sure my patients are ok. Prepping the CT rooms and scanners ... very varied.

I see many people who are about to learn they have cancers or life threatening illnesses and many people who are on their journey of having cancer and other illnesses. Also trauma patients coming through A&E.

I love my job. I can't change what has happened to my patients but I can help their journey more comfortable and bearable. My job also makes me appreciate how lucky I am to be healthy.

Buyer for the 3rd largest DIY company in the country...I also get to spend other peoples money. I buy the Christmas range. We are shipping this years products now from China and just about to start choosing the 2011 range!!!

I used to love Christmas but doing it all year has taken the sparkle out of it a bit...still, l might be moving in to Garden Furniture and BBQs...living the dream!!!

Money isn't bad and i get to travel to places like China, India, most of Europe...Swindon!!!

It's meant to be 9-5 Monday to Friday but normally i start for 8 and leave around 6ish so by the time I've finished with the horses I'm home for 8...Thank goodness for Part/Full livery.

Love to give it all up to run a livery yard and riding school...fingers crossed i win the Euro Lottery tonight!!!

I know it's easy to say but if you really hate your job then look for something else, take the leap and go for it before you really get stuck in a rut.

Hi, I currently work for the police but Ive had enough and want to do something I really want to do like working with horses/animals, but I cant find anything that pays enough!

What do all you horsey lovers do for your jobs?

:)

I was in the Police for over 30 years & a detective for 20+ of those. I found the department I was in in later years very intense & stressful & to be honest I was pleased to retire in the end. The job did however give me a reasonable pension so now I have a totally non stressful part time job, delivering school dinners to village schools, about 2.5 hours per day. I therefore have loads of time to spend with our 2 horses. I have all school holidays off & don't work weekends & only work the 2.5 hours in the middle of the weekdays. After almost 32 years of stress I think I've earned this life now. My daughter competes both horses, I drive the lorry, film the rounds & sort out entries etc & her mum is the groom...... I really enjoy my life. ;)

I work at a wholesale plant nursey, mainly doing health and safety and stock control. I also work out on the nursery weeding etc. I love it as its outside, I don't have to get dressed up and can go to work in the clothes I have done the horse in. I have the most easy going boss in th world!! I have worked with horses in the past and won't ever again!! (unless of course it was the last job on earth!)

Gotta say thank you to yourself and your colleagues and people who are in the same career area looking after my Gran and many other people right now! For every nurse who is a little 'abrupt' shall we say  there are many more who help the patients endlessly. You guys all do a fab job!

Im a loan underwriter - boring but i love pressing the reject button.
I do work p/t freelance groom sometimes, but did it full time before i went back into office work.

Work in sales and admin, which is basically..... lots of admin and spreadsheets!! I like the job, and the team is great, pays well and get to see horsie morning, evenings and weekends, so can't complain - the hours are fab. I'm not quite sure what else I would like to do at the mo, quite happy where I am TBH, although quite envious of some jobs being posted on here.

Probation Officer seconded to the Prison Service - often think about a career change but can't afford the pay drop, plus I have good pension and nearly eight weeks a year leave. Working 8-4 also gives me time for the horse and I can usually get time off for comps , leave early for farrier etc so its not all bad ;)

pub manager!!! - very busy food pub. Hard work - long hours, and lack of sleep is only way can have horse on DIY! Have done it for 17 years - would love to do something else but dont know anything other than managing a business.

What do all you horsey lovers do for your jobs?

:)

I work in finance, as a finance assistant at a university. Not my passion by any stretch but it keeps the wolf from the door. I am not giving up hope of having a job I love one day either.....

My dream job would be working with animals/nature, but they are often lower pay and everyone wants that job so they are hard to come by :(

I work for a music distributer in the week and a concert promoter in my spare time. It can be quite exciting (was on tour with Ozzy Osbourne the other week!) but i regularly think I would like a job with horses. Unfortunately at this point I have got used to making more than I would get paid with horses, if I could even get a job with them having no qualifications other than having my own all my life! I think its just the thought of never sitting at a desk that seems soooo appealing!! :)
