Just had the saddler out and his farrington VSD still fits him beatifully but with us starting to do more and bigger jumps I am finding it just doesn't give me the knee support I need.

So saddler is scratching his head and gone back to have a think about what will allow him to still move his big muscley shoulders but is going to be forward cut enough for me.

So I know I can't be the only one who has a jumping D so what do all you guys use?????

Ha - good luck!! If you find one let me know I've have my sec D for 2 yrs and we're on our fifth saddle!! He hates anything that vaguely touches his shoulder :-)

Currently in a Thoroughgood T4 Cob GP which is the best we've found so far - and that ain't perfect!! However, if I jumped (which I don't but aiming to do more this year :-)), this would probably be ok as its forward enough to accomodate my knees but not SO forward that Taffy wets his knickers - have you tried a T4 or T6??

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply Taffyhorse, not yet tried one of those, will suggest it to my saddler who is going to have a look at what might suit him now he has his shape and come back out next week for another session of trying saddles.

There can't just be me and Taffyhorse out there so come on guys what do you use, I can give my saddler a hint then what to look at.

Please pretty please

Hey, my mare isn't a Welsh D - but is built very much like one (barrel shaped, no withers and massive shoulders!) and I have an Ideal Impala saddle for her. Its a gorgeous saddle, fits her lovely and is very comfortable for the rider. They arent cheap tho - and i had to have mine made to measure in the end. Was worth every penny, im very pleased with it.

Also (eventually!) in a Thorowgood T4 for my section D, would love to find a jumping saddle too....

I have a Welsh D x TB, but he's more built like a Welsh than TB. Very flat backed, but with a small showing of a wither and a WIDE fitting. He fits nicely in Ideal saddles, and I have an Ideal Grandee for jumping/hacking out. It's not too forward cut for him, and allows for his big shoulders to move.
