Ok I know this is regional, so maybe not a good question for those of you in high-price areas BUT

What would you expect for 50 p/w or 200 a month?

As a benchmark I used to pay 145 for stable and hay/straw, with two schools, rotated grazing and other benefits.

£50pw would only buy you assisted DIY around here (E Devon).

11 years ago I paid £50pw for 'full livery' (for 15.1 Arab gelding) which involved them supplying everything except grooming and exercise but that yard was exceptional and has since, if it's any indication, gone out of business. 11 years on I don't think I'd be able to find that offer again :)

i ust to pay £40 a week for diy with hay and straw so id expect that maby with a bit of help? (turn out in mornings ect)

Well we charge £30 a week DIY plus bedding plus haylage. Haylage is £10 a week so that equates to £40 a week, and the bedding is about £5 a bag and one a week normal usage. So thats £45. So throw in 2 bags of bedding and thats £50 a week. That is large rubber matted stable, turn out in small single herds, rotated well managed grazing, floodlit school, summer gallops and jumping paddock, post and rail fencing and no poo picking required as we take the machine round the fields weekly

I used to pay £200pcm (there or there abouts) for stable, amazing grazing, nice arena and hay/ bedding.

It was full livery October to April and DIY in the summer (but the same price all year round.

Where we are: DIY. Haylage provided. Stable, grazing, use of 2 outdoor or 1 indoor school (although if you are having a lesson you have to book and pay). So pretty basic service, although the facilities are amazing.

Assisted / full livery runs to 350 - 500 / month.

Well, I know this is a bad month but for me this includes:
Haylage - not great quality
Straw - dusty
Sporadic turnout (ie not every day)

NO SCHOOL NO MANAGED TURNOUT

To say I'm unhappy with this is an understatement.

I'd expect full livery for that! I pay £22 a week for grazing, stable and haylage facilities include indoor and outdoor school (no extra charges for using) and acres of off road riding through estate land. I pay an extra £1 a day for him being bought in for me in the afternoon because he's out 24/7 but if I wanted him in the stable that wouldn't be any extra. My stable is mine to do what I want with and they are lovely large stables too.

Around here - gold bloody plated.......

This!!

for £25 p/w I had hay/straw/feed inc. Stables brought in in the AM, fed, gave hay and water and turned out. Skipped out and refilled hay/water, gave lunch/dinner feeds (and brought in/turned out as required). They also changed rugs, treated cuts etc.

We also had a XC course, indoor and outdoor arena and jumping paddock. The hacking was just beyond the fields (no road work) and went for miles upon miles - forestry commission!

Only thing they didn't do was exercise your horse - although I did sometimes exercise others, as mine wasn't backed at that point. YO was also our RI.

I do not understand how anyone could possibly make a profit doing all that for £25 PW??

I pay £170 a month for stable, TO, school, walker, hayledge and straw.

This sounds terrible - especially as its your horse that has to lie on the dusty straw , eat the manky hay and not even stretch his/her legs. Handing over the money's the easy bit I'd move ASAP. ( although I know that's not easy in some areas)

Maybe it wasn't a business, Starbucks.

Thanks guys, I almost cried when I opened my livery bill this month, it's not good at all.

Not a long term worry as the boy is going into early retirement anyway BUT, I wont be coming back to the yard with my new horse, no no!

For £50 pound a week!!!!

I pay £33 and i get hay, haylage and straw stable in an indoor barn, as much turnout as we like and great facilities incl indoor school and horse walker! Plus they are always happy to turn out and bring in if needed, or it's £4 a day for full livery if i'm away working or something.

Not that I want to upset you, Kitty, but I charge £46pw/£200pcm for assisted DIY, including ad lib forage, basic feed (chaff + Balancer), use of all facilities, turn out and bring in. All you need to add to that is bedding and you need to muck out yourself. As you know, we aren't short of turnout or grass either.
Me thinks you need to look for another yard :o

I'll poke you in the eye! :D

Yeah it hadn't occured to me so much when I had my sharer, but this winter has been the worst of my life - cost wise and the damn animal hasn't even been doing anything!

I kept two for that it was full diy, unltd turnout, I could run it to suit me, no nosey liveries fair enough no school (i made a grass one) brilliant hacking, leccy, water included and I could buy straw from the farmer for buttons. :)

Even bigger sigh, I'm being robbed then it seems!

Bloomin' heck ! I pay per horse, £11 p/w for stable, unlimited turnout, open barns, grass school with jumps, fab hacking.
Unlimited hay in winter works out around £10 p/w each.
And lovely YO gives me a discount for third horse. Even got a free month when OH fixed a burst pipe.

We have just put our prices up.
£200 a month would get working livery on our lovely quiet yard. Includes all hay or haylage, straw or shavings and is basically full livery, includes extras like tack cleaning / rug washing / clipping / bathing. Daily turn out at the moment with some already out for summer. Horses are used a maximum of 4 hours a week by students.

The same livery without students or staff exercising them is £300 per month.

Yard is probably the closest to the city centre with brill hacking.

I pay £100 per month for my stable then straw/haylage on top. We have turnout everyday and live out in the summer, indoor and outdoor school and a lovely lady who you can pay to do any extra's (she's very cheap too!)
