What length stirrup leathers?

Do normal people have? I've just measured mine from the end of the buckle to the end of the leather at 59'' which I assume was once 58'' but has stretched or am I measuring wrong?

As I am at the top hole to jump would 56'' leathers be about right for me? Confused.com! :confused:
 
I ride in teenagers leathers - 48" for jumping! 56" is really long, there's no way you need ones that long! That's 'gents' length. Ladies are normally 52"-54" I think.
 
I don't know how I have never managed to work out how stirrup leathers work! They must be the least complicated thing a horse wears and I am baffled by what to buy!

Why are the ones I currently own so long?! :confused: :o
 
Because they came with the saddle?!

Just buy some teenagers ones - they will be fine for your stumpy legs ;)

You also won't have so much leather left that it goes over the end of the saddle cloth and makes your horse buck.....
 
If they're the ones from BHs saddle, they're not that long, you just ride really short! :P but yes, I never understand stirrup leathers, I had to punch extra holes in the ones I brought as they were too long and I was too embarrassed to return them :o

I don't need my stirrup leathers to go back there and make her buck, my blinking legs end up back there somehow and do the job just fine. :eek:

I had better get nylon core ones so I don't snap them given that I am considerably fatter than your average teenager :(

No, they are ones that I got from... well I don't know where actually :confused: They're black for starters and I can't imagine I've ever bought black ones before.

They are also horribly uneven and I have had enough of them! Also I got told to put my jerks up at least one hole. I have no holes left. I thought I was riding quite short but apparently not :confused:
