I phoned every ad in the paper, and went to see the ones I could afford, one was s disaster who reared up and sat down when I tried to ride it, the next was a grey mare *wub* who felt comfy when I sat on her, she walked trotted and cantered calmly, and I jumped her over a couple of fences - I'd had a bad fall a few weeks earlier from a horse who'd thrown me, so I was very nervous, but she made me feel safe. I walked her up to the busy main road and she stood like a log when a double decker bus roared by. As I was leaving I turned to say "bye" and she pricked her ears and looked at me in a way that just made me want to buy her.
She turned out to be a complete lunatic, who apparently forgot how to walk or trot and went everywhere at a canter or gallop, and freaked out when she met lorries on the roads!! Although she was a fantastic jumper and I did get my confidence back over fences with her.
