What made you leave your last/past livery yard?

I left the last yard because the YO was a lazy, lying little cow and due to my work/injury I really need Ass. Diy rather than being told that things were being done (and charged for it!) only to find they hadn't been.
Loving current yard, YO is absolutely lovely and extremely helpful - to the point where she offered me the ride of her horse when mine was off with a tooth abscess, we'd been there 10 days... The other liveries are friendly as well and it's such a nice relaxed atmosphere. Only niggle is having to hack to the school but it's not really a problem just a tad inconvenient!

Horse had an abscess and was lame, made no sense to be paying someone else for the horse to convalesce when she can do that at home for free.

Me and a friend shared the work between us with are horses. Basically mine went onto box rest and she took the p*ss. She wouldn't give him fresh water, turned up at 12pm when she did mornings etc... If I did mornings I'd be there by 10am. I got sick of the stress and didn't like her not pulling her weight when I did for her horse.

To add to that another lady got involved so we all helped each other out with turnout etc (small private yard). Other lady refused to handle my horse... He jogs to and from field but isn't dangerous. So I was worried over him being left out on his own as he'd go ballistic.

Plus my horse needed 24/7 turnout.

1. Relocation to Midlands
2. Emigration of YO
3. Bullying and victimisation
4. Got own yard
5. Relocation to Devon and horses now at home

I've left yards due to the staff usually. If full livery and a groom left, the new one wasn't up to standard. I resent paying for horse to run out of hay by 8pm, low water and dirty beds with 2" of bed on concrete. DIY yards it was the YO themselves changing rules with one day notice that meant I had to leave. Things like expensive fees, poo picking, half day turnout, yard sweeping rotas are fine if you knew before you went there, but not if its suddenly dumped on you, when you'd specificly chose a yard that didn't have those things. The last yard I left for purely financial reasons though.

I left my first yard because I left the country. That was easy.

The second, because I didn't like the mud and filth of the place and the fact that you could never get in the arena.

The third because a couple of months prior to foaling the yard owner who had been in on the conversation since way before conception decided she didn't want the responsibility.

The fourth because the responsibility of a yard was just too much for and she was mad (really).

The fifth. Well. I wish I hadn't left. Great knowledge and they delivered me a stunning foal. But no winter turnout and my best friends were leaving. Tried to go back.

Current yard. Turnout paddocks too small. No knowledge or back up. No arena despite promises . . . (see previous thread). Could list more . . .

So moving on and will move on from that when I really find what I want. Just nothing about that even remotely offers what I had abroad.

Left last yard as had sold pony!

On a diff yard now as was loaning a horse on it and then bought the owner's other horse!

Still tempted to go back to the first yard as it was lovely and quiet, the 2 liveries there are both good friends of mine and it's closer, but the current yard suits my current circumstances so am content here for now :)

Thank you everyone for making me a nervous wreck!
I have my own livery yard and although i know i do my best by all the horses on the yard, look after them like i do my own and the liveries, i'm now worried that they will join in on here!
Not that i do any of the things listed by you lot, it's just that we are all human and sometimes there are tiny errors or slightly missed things, luckily we all get along and as far as i know any problems they will come to me.....i hope!

Left first yard because too far away and was only ever meant to be a temporary arrangement anyway.
Left second yard because it closed down.
Left third yard because my youngster needed better facilities (was only a stable and a field).
Left fourth yard because of a nutter bullying dangerous livery (along with other people who had also had enough of the YO ignoring us and siding with the mad OCD b*tch).
Now at 5th yard, biggest yard so far, reasonable facilities and hacking, not been here long so hope I will stay happy here, I really don't want to have to move again and there aren't many more yards around here!!!

I left my last yard due to an insufferable b8tch who I would have ended up in a fight with if I hadn't gone!

I am back at my original yard now, which is on the most part perfect.

Left yard one as I was injured and had to sell the horse. :(

Left yard two because my horse was injured and they didn't inform me - just stuck her in her stable and hid when I arrived. Then they closed ranks when I asked what happened (I asked nicely too) but I strongly suspect from their reaction that someone did something to cause the accident.

Left yard three because I moved away from the area.

I was thrown off because an alleged friend told the YO a pack of lies about me. At the time, I was devastated, but I should have moved off ages ago as the inconvenients were so massive compared to the useful proximity to work. (New horses arriving constantly, no quarantine, no careful introductions because there's a dealer turning over lots of them so frequent fights :( a bloke who got out of prison last year for paedophile offences, appalling turn out, far too many horses on the land, a trough that needed filling with a hose and is miles from the yard, no maintenance done, a YO who screams at everyone and called me a word starting with c..... because that's how he speaks.)

Left the first one because the yard owner was using my horse for lessons and rides without my permission, and because the horse wasn't being turned out for the day despite it being paid for.

Left the second yard because there were pigs kept near the arena and the horse never got used to them (would go round keeping his nose in the direction of the pigs).

After two months of a stressed, unhappy horse I moved to a beautiful yard, where the horse is relaxed and very well cared for (sometimes you get what you pay for).

Yard 1 - Rude, ignorant, bullying, cruel, thieving, lying, lazy, drug dealing YOs. Ignorant, lazy lying grooms. fab hacking, lovely huge floodlit arena, , nice liveries though. Got thrown off with no notice when I challenged the YO about their cruelty to a schooling livery.
Yard 2 - mad control freak YO, who said she would turn out my old horse on the road if I didnt go out hacking with her then and there. I declined: she did .
Yard 3. Another control freak YO, poor beds and dreadful uncontrolled gangs of other liveries' children in an allegedly adult yard.
Current yard, lovely all round. Apart from an interfering livery who messes with other people's horses ( plaits and bandages, puts creams on them etc, when their owners aren't there. Tells owners "you aren't doing xyz properly - you should do abc".doesn't seem to understand "stop it!"

Only ever had my horses at the 1 yard. If there was a problem I would deal with it rather than leave.Im on a good yard though, seems like a rarity when you raed some of these posts!

I moved off last yard because it was an hour away from home. Now at one 15mins from home so, get to see my girl more often and hacking is brilliant :D

Last yard had crap fencing and a sacrifice field system for winter turnout. My clever Section D saw the lush fields of grass either side of teh sacrifice field and either stepped over or jumped the crappy fencing to get into the grazing. How none of the other 18 horses never worked that one out I'll never know. Anyway, rather than fix the fencing (I offered to pay half) YO banned him from turnout. In about a week he had become terribly depressed and was so unhappy I had to do something about it even though the thought of moving to a DIY yard terrified me because I wasn't sure I knew enough about horse care to manage without professionals around. Never looked back though. My lad is as happy as a pig in clover and has "free range" privileges during the day. Happy happy lad.

Last yard was because a space came up at a yard 15mins from home and 5 mins from work, also a lot cheaper and where my mare is.
Yard before that was because I was moving away, but also 2 weeks before I left, my horse was on full livery for 3 days and when I got back my horse had a nasty kick on his shoulder that needed vet treatment. No one let me know anything or even rang the vet!
The yard before that was because i moved area. Also the last time i was there the horse i had, had a nasty dust allergy and needed to be in a stable outside (yard has american barn stabling).
Before that, i moved area.
Yards before that is because I no longer had horses.
The yard I'm currently at is the 4th time I've been there, the first time being 16 years ago!

Only ever moved yard due to moving home to a new area. I have always done my research and am able to get a good feel for a yard when visiting. Been on 4 yards total in 29 years which is good going I think ;) :D

My experience but without the house moves. Have only moved yards due to their change in circumstances. Basically 3 yards closed and I am on my 4th in 22 years. Would have still been at the first one if it was still there.

Just moved from a yard with great facilities (outdoor/indoor school, walker, turnout, large stables, jumping paddock) to an up and coming yard.

The reasons?

1) Wanted longer or 24/7 turnout for ex racer with use of stable when needed instead of having to bring him in at 5pm. He will be turned out in a herd so no danger of him being left on his own if I cant make arrangements or get to the yard in time

2) Needed better hacking. He isn't keen on heavy traffic and would rather intorduce it to him gradually than continue to ride him on a main road

3) Constant sniping, backstabbing and one-upmanship

4) YO's more interested in the other part of their business than the livery yard, fences need repairing etc.

5) Snotty notes left on the blackboard from YO, today's was along the lines
of 'If you leave early, before the next livery payment is due you will NOT be given a refund' I'm guessing that was aimed at us as we have paid up until the 7th August but moved the boy today. I don't hold high hopes for us getting our £50 deposit back either after we've cleaned the stable (it is swept but we have to scrub it tomorrow) and ensured our paddock is as we found it.
Another gem was 'No turnout out tomorrow you are trashing the fields', in fairness though the path had flooded as the other side of the business has lakes

7) YO carrying out building works, including knocking stables down that back on to stables with horses in them, diggers etc. haring around the yard all day through the week and weekend (why not set out times which horses must be turned out so building can be done safely??)

8) Workman reversing a lorry into me and the boy whilst my other half shouts at them to stop, apparently he had to go because he was in a rush. I had 16.2 of TB standing on me in fear and the lorry still drove after us when I go him past it.

The yard has great facilities and could be fantastic, sadly it just doesn't suit us. I have high hopes for the new yard....surely not all livery yards are like this??

Um, psycho yard owner decided I was starving my horse to death & threatened to report me to the rspca for having her in a grazing muzzle despite being under veterinary advice! Then found her muzzle on the field gate! Was the final nail in the coffin tbh, he was a cantankerous old bloke who used to be a dairy farmer - don't think he realised going to horses would involve having people on his farm every day but put up with it as was very cheap for the facilities but constantly having herds moved around, barbed wire fencing etc etc. Moved to a similar sized yard run by horsey people and loads happier - the odd niggle as you'd get anywhere but allowed to strip graze my girl & is far easier to maintain her weight :)

I liked my old yard, the owner was lovely and the people were great.

I moved in the end because I managed to get a spot very close, and for the same money the facilities were much improved. Horse is now in a post and rail paddock with shelter, rotated regularly and the soil is fantastic, always yields fabulous pasture. The arena is regularly harrowed and raked, there is a lovely jumps paddock (big enough to go for a burl around in) Good gravel tie up area and hot wash :D This is for full care too, rugs and feeding out.

The other place was nice because there weren't many people, but the set-up needed a bit of work. There was always water everywhere when it rained, and this winter the tie up area turned feeding out yard was a mess! And it was frustrating leading my horse through a communal area with the 8 or 9 group paddock horses milling around.

I'm lucky in the sense that people have always been nice :)

Yo restricted grazing and for three wks we were in and not able to use school as it was too 'wet' even tho the were no puddles.
My arthritic mare went onto two danilon aday and was so stiff........then two months after woving to current yard she was off the danilon and acting like a two yearold again.

X
