What magic tricks to whiten?

Hello - I have a grey, whose tail needs a clean. He has done little work for the past 3 months due to box rest/turnout and has come back into work with a mane and tail looking like he smokes 100 Superkings a day - Any tricks to whiten and brighten?
 
For the tail I use soda crystals or curtain whitener or persil actilift - it's fine as long as you rinse thorougly and don't let it touch the skin.

For his mane I just use fairy liquid but then he has a predominatly black mane so it's not too much of an issue.
 
I used to work for a lady that was absolutley anal about her dapple grey horses tails being blinding white and she used to stock up on bottles of peroxide from boots and get up to soak the ends of their tails in that, Not sure it was the best thing to use but it did do the trick pretty well :) good luck.
 
swarfega sorry if spelt wrong for dirty work hands does a good job leave on for ten minutes and wash with fairy liquid
 
Whatever you use - it will work better with hot water! You need it to lift the dirt, you wouldnt wash your dishes or yourself in cold water!!

Hibiscrub & hot water is great for lifting dirt :)
 
I use Persil actilift and Cowboy magic, yellow out shine in, mixed together and left on for five minutes and rinsed with very hot water, then i use Touch of silver shampoo, and keep using touch of silver every week, heaps of pantene conditioner, and in a tail bag once the stains out a bit, only thing ive found to keep them clean is using a tail bag all the time, then you dont have to resort to using strong washing liquids/chemicals, Worse if you have a mare and the yellow is so ingrained, that you hve to wait until it grows out yuk yuk :D
 
My grey pony did a very messy poo just before going into the warm up this morning....I soaked it in cold water then sprayed cowboy magic green stain remover, left it on for 10 mins then rinsed in cold water again. Luckily we were in the first class and it was running late so by the time we went in it was white again...phew
 
Many years ago I showed a light grey cob with a knack of lying in the warm patches of her bed. I used to use a blue tinted shampoo which was designed for use on white poodles. Always got comments on how blindingly white she was. Not sure what is on the market now but must be something similar available in the pet shops.
