As above really, just wanted to know what makes your YO/YM a good one or what qualities you wish they did have that would make them good :)

Someone who always puts the horses interest first, even if you dont always agree with everything you know that they will look after your horse as if they were their own.

And knows their own mind, that way livery squabbles dont escalate cos everyone knows YOs word is law.

For me the perfect YO/M would be someone who first and foremost has the horses best interest at heart, is willing to give answers to questions without having to chase them, someone who would be willing to give advice would be nice, who makes sure the field management is taken seriously so that the fields are kept in as good a condition as possible, who fixes things that need fixing (unless of course I or my horse broke it) in good time such as fencing or if the water supply was cut off for some reason, someone friendly and approachable who isn't a scary ogre because they are having a crappy day and doesn't take out their anger on other people when it's not their fault, and someone who takes pains to make sure that the yard stays a happy and friendly place in so far as much as they can make that possible.....
Ooh and also someone who's not just out to make a quick bit of money and actually has a vested interest in keeping the liveries as happy as can be whilst still running the business :D

Am I totally dreaming? ;)

Someone who treats the horses as individuals rather than them all the being same. He/she notices when the horse is injured or unwell, does what has been agreed and what they are being paid for. Someone who walks round and checks fields on occasions and is friendly although doesn't get involved in gossip and treats everyone the same.

Someone who is willing to help if asked although doesn't interfere and someone who is approachable and able to talk through any concerns or speak up if not happy with livery.

Someone who keeps/treats the yard/horses/liveries as they would like to be kept/treated if their own

Got to be someone that I can trust 2 handle/manage/look after/treat horse. Who treats all horses as they would their own & realises they (+ owner) r all individual.
maintains yard so if safe for all & r knowledge & able 2 help with riding problem but don't stick their most in2 what I do with horse.
& I'd like 2 say my YO/YM do all this & more. I'm v happy livery!!!

My last YO called me one snowy afternoon and said "Don't get in the car, it's not nice outside your horses are all mucked out, hayed watered and inside. What hard feed shall I give them?" and didn't charge me a bean.

She helped me no end with my riggy horse, when she took over from the previous lady the first thing she did was put us liveries on the field closest to the yard instead of the one right up the back of the farm where there was no running water. She offered to lend me horses when mine was lame, hugged me when I'd had a bad day and although I've moved to my own place now, we're still good friends. I'm a better horse owner for having spent those years on her yard.
