what makes you leave a yard?

Lack of turnout and poor management. Being on full livery means I am pretty fussy as I need to trust yo completely as work means I often can't go up for a few days. I can put up with things that annoy make personally, but nothing that impacts my horse negatively.

My reasons:

*over grazed fields (poor field management)
*school always being booked by the same people who were unwilling to share (and YO wouldn't make them) so never got to ride
*horse being left alone in field out of sight of the yard and other horses
*being charged more than everyone else
*full livery yard beautifully kept (clean, tidy etc) but horses stood in with muddy legs and feet not picked out
*YO believing people who were lying about me

Now very happy on a small, private yard with just three of us.

I adore our yard, just us and one other livery, very quiet and friendly, YO not horsey so just leaves us to it, completely trust the other livery, 24/7 turnout, nice large stables, great hacking, 5min walk from home and not too pricey! I'm NEVER moving! :D

I left one yard after two weeks. We just couldn't cope with the turnout. We couldn't get the horses into or out of the field due to a couple of really nasty gate hoggers.

Found out when I gave notice that a couple of horses had died in that field, kicked by the residents

Unreasonable YO who believed lies about me.
Constant drama, it was very wearing.
Someone was allowed back and should not have been anywhere near a yard :(

I really like my current place, no drama, lots of help available if I want it, useful reciprocal arrangement with someone else for turn out catch in, so I only need to go once a day in the week, relaxed and lots of adults to talk to and kids who love to help! I taught the YM and her sister (promise I'm not that old, they're very young!!)

A bad atmosphere, bullies and/or bitchiness!

I can ignore it for so long but then it gradually grinds me down. Both my moves with my current horse have been due to things that have happened because I was ill and couldn't stick up for myself any more. Bullies have a knack of kicking you when you're down!

My new yard seems great because nobody seems to give a chuff what anyone else is doing. Really refreshing!

Hi, does anyone you know have a horse thats a little anxious going through gates
i dont quite know where to start with this, the YO where i keep my neds is new to livery and is taking advice from a family member on how to run her yard this family member clearly has a big ego and has written a book on how to run a livery and the people in them from his point of view
He runs a very large livery in stafford i think
i havent red the book myself but our YO lent it to some of the other girls on our yard to read they were shocked by some of the things in this book, the worst being, Mr Ego was working on his yard close to the field gate and one livery horse kept coming over and sticking his nose over the gate Mr Ego got fed up with this and decided to connect the gate to the electric to teach the horse a lesson, the horse got such a shock that when the owner tried to get him near the gate she was having real trouble getting anywhere near and didnt know why her horse had suddenly developed this problem. All the while Mr Ego was laughing at the owner and her know terrified horse. does this sound familiar?
He also believes that horsey people just want throw their money at him and he doesnt believe in names liveries are just numbers
this yard sounds charming
