My lab really hates brass bands and church bells. If he hears them he just sits there and howls which can be emarrassing when walking past churches

We met a lady on our walk this morning whose dog howls when she meets another dog and it got me thinking - what sets your dogs off?

In five years, I've never heard my dog howl. And she only barks at the doorbell.

I know a beagle that howls whenever fire engines go by--very tuneful once he really gets going.

If I'm up late - who needs an alarm clock, If I pass the kennels or come home and don't speak to them. If someone is at the gates and nobody comes when they bark then they open up in full chorus and with my lot you can imagine it sounds like a pack of wolves or hounds!

Coyotes yipping in the night

That is the only thing that seems to set them off.

2 of my dogs don't bark or howl, 1 barks occasionally but never howls and the other is special

. She howls and "sings" whenever she smells a predator on the farm.

Beastie never howls, but she likes the sound of her barking voice

Both labs are taught not to bark but occassionally is puppy is left outside she'll howl a bit.

I didn't think Millie howled until mum took the others for a walk, leaving Moo in the conservatory, and I could hear a strange noise. So went downstairs to investigate and there's Moo with her back to the dining room door with her little nose in the air - complaining! Lol she looked so cute. I think Jim did as a baby but can't remember why.

Mums HWV, Harris, is the worst one. He sulks a lot if mum goes somewhere without him (mummy's boy you see) so he'll sit and howl sometimes.

our two dogs only howl when i go out.lucky for us we have a dog lover next door who says they sing! they sing for about 10 mins then go to sleep.

Loki (lab) doesn't bark.... but he will occasionally whimper a bit if am late coming downstairs (he sits neatly at the bottom waiting cos he knows not to actually come upstairs

)

Then last week he howled twice (maybe I was especially late - by 5 mins or something

was so odd to hear that noise from such a quiet dog

Never a peep from our saluki x but out Dobie howls all the time!!

When the phone rings (our last Dobe did this too)
When she's finished barking she has to finish off with a good howl.
When she thinks I should get up!
When she gets scared at the yard she runs back to my car and howls...

And when she isn't actually howling she "talks" to you all the time.

I have never has a dog who makes so many wierd noises!

my rottie howls if you ask him where are the rabbits, my collie gets well excited too but they would never kill a rabbit they just like to chase if they get the chance

My girl never howls, but then she doesn't bark either. If she hears a strange noise then she will "huff" at it, but otherwise she's silent.

Lab does it when she wants to come in sitting room, she will sit by door and howl until she is given the all clear to come in!!

Dyl, the little JR howls at lots of things the TV and my dad when he is being a prat, Dad will stand there howling until Dyl howls back!

One of mine will never howl, the other will have a go. If i howl at him, he does it back, provides some amusement if you howl at him down the phone. He also howls at the alarm clock and at the telephone when it rings!

Recently a new paper boy was baiting my rotti because she barked at him. My neighbour saved the day and caught him red handed, but my rotti was that distressed she sat and howled for about 10 mins. I was out and my neighbour spent the afternoon giving her treats and looking after her. We were both hopping mad and reported him to the newsagents. Before and since she has never howled.
