Just wondered what you teach........ In the field, stable, mounting riding etc
Mine are all taught to stand still when asked. To move over in the stable and to move back when asked. I also like them to wait whilst their headcollars are removed when turning out. However, have not always been totally successful with that one!! Basically a polite and respectful horse so there are many others too numerous to mention.
Hit the nail on the head! No running me down, picking legs up when asked, and not rubbing head on me.
I had/have all of these bad manners and more and this weekend have started clicker training. It is fantastic and already seeing definate improvement. Worth a look. Highly recommended.
1) To respect my space
2) To listen to what I'm asking, and do as I ask
3) To accept that I am the boss, to accept my rules and (if necessary) my discipline
But here's the BIG thing. It's what I will promise to do in return for manners:
I will:
1) Arrive when you expect me to
2) Understand that you are a flight/fright herbivore
3) Take the lead when you need me to
4) Never ask too much of you and appreciate that some of the things I ask of you are HUGE 'asks'
5) Never take my bad mood out on you
6) Love you as you deserve to be loved
7) Take ultimate responsibility for your life, happiness and well-being.
A fair swap I think. Don't you?![]()
