I warned you not to read its a bit long and rambling!!
Well following on from our frights of the last 12 months I am now working on a BUBBLE system with the Great Big Lump.
I am taking things quite slowly because his last two incidents scared my pants off one in July being fired into the air at speed on a fun ride and two having him dancing vertically in front of my nose when something frightened him in fact 3 because he went ballistic when a Pony and trap came down the lane while I was in the being bucked off arena and I baled out.
What is the BUBBLE system if I told you that you wouldnt buy my Book?
Ok we have the bubble we normally work and live in Stable Yard Turnout and indoor school. Outside of this Bubble are our unknowns that we may be frightened of - we dont know yet.
Earlier on in the year I did the lungeing with lots of noise stuff and lots of the GOOD BOY phrase which I have found is a phrase he likes so much if I forget to say it he almost pouts.
Then I did the lungeing in the very spooky end of the arena.
In the last few weeks we have done :-
Hannahs washing line with the Rugby shirts waving menacingly.
A blue tarpaulin on the ground with poles in the indoor school Walk and trotted over in every direction. We also cantered by mistake as being a very willing boy he realised that the common pattern to our session was going over the Blue thing.
We took the same tarpaulin into the big Car park and even ended up with me jumping up and down on it going swishy swishy rustle rustle
We rode in the school while a Mobile home was being delivered and lots of shouting and banging was happening and we then went out and met the JCB Tractor Noisy Men and lots of beeping.
We rode outside in the 'being thrown off arena' for 10 mins after schooling indoors
We Jumped Cross poles out in the 'being thrown off arena' after schooling indoors another evening.
We hacked down the lane and ate Blackberries directly from the bush but we didnt want to go forward as we dont like being alone.
We hacked down the lane another evening and trotted forward very positivly went further ate blackberries and then turned around and started to walk back. Realised we had missed a very good blackberry bush so turned around and trotted away from home again.
We met Jane filling up bags from the muck heap and had a chat but unfotunatly had to explain to him that 17hh into a hatchback do not go even though he was very interested in the contents of her boot.
So this is my bubble system rather than the Big Bang approach which is normally my head on the deck we are working every day and seeking every opportunity while in my saftey zone to meet and experience anything and everything.
He seems to be very taken with small ponies because I let him play racing in the school while someone was tiring out a naughty school pony and he and pony thought it a great lark. Now whenever anything little comes in the school his ears perk up no end.
So here I am this eccentric woman saying to people ooh can my horse meet your dog I even accosted a Central Heating Engineer and asked him if we could watch him unload the copper piping and radiators from his van. (well thats my excuse anyway).
So far he hasnt overreacted to anything and a small part of me wishes he would just a little so that now I am feeling a bit braver I can tell him its ok.
I would say triple Chocolate Chip Cookies if you have taken the trouble to read this far they are in the cupboard in the lounge help yourself.
