That despite a NZ rug, it still takes 30 mins to brush him, and that he can get mud inside his eye, as well as outside.......mud mascara and mud eye liner!
Luckily today also re-confirmed that my farrier is fab and new horse is also very good to shoe!
In the 14 days we've had him, the thing we've learnt every day is when he's good he's very very good, and when he's bad he's... well, not horrid just... a bit of a turd!
i've learnt that my mare really doesnt like the 13hh grey pony and doesnt seem to think that its suitable company, que her screaming her head off when i put her in the field with just that pony in it, all the others are in at night. she does have company, water, shelter, rugs and plenty of grass so i do not see a reason for her to scream
That if it comes to a choice between Fast Fibre or nice freshly steamed hay (from our new DIY hay steamer made after reading threads on here ), the hay wins hands down.
Brilliant - I was wondering how you had got on. My boy is going in december and I am a bit concerned but the girl who is taking him weighs about half what I weigh so they should be fine
That he clearly knows something that I do not about metal gates with fluttering blue rope attached which means he has to take charge and protect me by removing us from the situation .........!
Today I learnt that my boy doesn't do change - this is his first Autumn/Winter at his woodside lodgings and well - he doesn't like leaves falling off trees, or being blown about - and leaves/acorns falling onto logs well.... - in fact he feels that he has to protect me from said beasties by bolting ... - but combine harvesters, trail motorbikes, amber flashing lights, ride on mowers, fireworks and stationery push bikes are friendly and not at all beastly and really rather interesting (only a couple of weeks ago stationery push bike was fiercesome beastie )
Todays lesson is:
Never be complacent with chestnut ponio as he is an ever changing force of nature, never boring and will always test his mam
I learnt 2 things about the mare yesterday.
She can pop a fence beautifully and apparently she 'attacked' someone. She was just being assertive of her place in the pecking order.
About my gelding, he isn't so sure about my decision to try barefoot.
