Hello, following my previous post re losing my nerve and lots of fantastic advice I have been doing a lot of thinking. Currently my situation is as follows. I am in my first year as a qualified science teacher, and for the first time can actually afford things. I was hoping to work towards ownership, in no rush whatsoever but that is the goal. Last year I had sole use of a pony, but it has moved elsewhere.

So far, I have only been able to spare time at weekends and holidays, due to business at school and dark evenings. So to fill the gap I have been using a horse (mainly hacking) from the local riding centre. The problem is, the centre is getting busier so originally a part loan was on the cards, but the owner needs as many horses as possible so it is hard to fit in with something 1-2-1.

Following my fall yesterday, I have decided not to give up (yay!), and an opportunity has risen through word of mouth. There is a lady looking for a sharer for her horse, for a small contribution and help with chores. It does sound good, it's 1-2-1 and I'm going to meet her on thursday.

However, I'm worried about letting her down if something came up in the foreseeble future (in terms of ownership), which makes me worried about committment. At the moment, there are no strings attached at the other yard, but i'ts not as ideal as having use of one horse and forming a relationship.

I wouldn't be looking for anything until at least summer, if not longer (as I am in no rush, finding the perfect pony takes time!). However, I'm also worried about cutting ties with the riding centre as they have been good to me over the year when I have been without a horse.

I wondered what other people's thoughts were

I have a sharer for one of my horses, she comes down a couple of times a week when she can, sometimes she has to go away with work or like this weekend her boyfriend took her away for a romantic, surprise weekend away (which we thought was very selfish as we could have gone hunting!!)

Anyway - I have to put up with her coming to ride when she can, what she does is is better than nothing!

Where are you in Sussex?

Congrats on not giving up, we all part company with our equine partners now and again!!

I would be completely honest with the lady offering to share and explain your situation with the riding centre. That puts the ball in her court and allows her to decide if you are the right person to share with. It may be that she would be happy to take the chance of you finding a horse further down the line and at least she would know where she stood from the start.

Hope this helps

Hi Lolliie, I'm in East sussex, asdown forest area. Sorry to hear about the weekend, the last thing I would want to do is muck people around, I would expect to stick to something if agreed, unless there were exceptional circumstances in which case I would give plenty of warning or arrange for someone to help out

Hi Trichromatic, I have explained the situation over the phone and she still seems keen, so I guess as long as we are completely honest she can decide whether she wants to go for it or hang on for someone else, thanks for the advice I think it's so important to be honest! The last thing I want to do is mess people around.
