Thinking of getting a new saddle for my 8 yr old daughter and her 12.2 pony, specifically one that would give her a bit more security for jumping than her current show saddle. Would prefer one with a changeable gullet, so been looking at Kent and Masters, and Whittaker Barnsley. Any other recommendations?

Friend of mine has used a forester saddle for her long legged daughter who is prone to practically sitting on her saint of a Pony's neck when jumping if she doesn't have enough knee roll which has worked quite well. Not sure if they do changeable bullets as hers was not due to have an extra wide pony.

The Thorowgood Pony Club is very similar to a jump saddle. We had a number of these for our children when they were on ponies. Cost effective and teaches them to be accountable for their own position.

I was also too tight to buy a full blown leather jump saddle that would get scratched against bushes, fall off railings and that I had to clean when they were small. So Thorowgood and it’s price point, easy care worked for me.

I jumped a lot as a child in an old fashioned flat saddle, it gave me a very good strong and stable seat which has always held me in good stead. In the long term it may be better to get her to work more on developing a strong seat than the habit of relying on a saddle to hold her in place.

We did a fair bit of pony jumping for a few years, had a W Barnsby pony jump saddle and a MW pony Pessoa which seemed to fit most of the smaller ponies we had.

Thorowgood pony club saddle. Great fit for ponies, decent flap for jumping, nice and sticky with suede-effect knee rolls and seat. And cheap! We got our most recent one for £80 off FB marketplace. It was barely used!
