how awful, ive only just been told about this, am so glad i wasnt watching, i get so upset even when they just fall and im from a family who owns race horses - very sad for all involved

yes, condolences to all involved, just totally tragic.
i think the lad or lass who was leading the next one round deserves a gold medal for quick thinking, as it can't have been immediately obvious what was going on, but s/he circled away immediately... had a jockey in the plate too, consequences could have been horrific.
