I'm worried that this is a stupid question and i'm missing something obvious, but i've googled everything I can think of and still havent found out! so it's bugging me. What is this piece of tack that seems to go under the back legs of Katharina Offel's horse Quebracho Semilly? Clicked on a random Youtube link and at 1:10:00 ish she comes in the ring and I couldnt figure out what it was.

please put me out of my misery and tell me what it is :D

I am intrigued to know too! The bit going under the tail and attached to back of saddle is obviously a crupper.. but the rest I can't help you with I'm afraid!

I think it's a horse equivalent of a jock strap to protect his man parts! Some stallions are quite sensitive and don't move / jump properly as they try to protect themselves from injury or from arena surface being kicked up and chaffing them this area.

Now you point this out, there does seem to be a "cup" looking thing?

Well I never :D The strap that looks like a crupper strap is the other end of it then. I was thinking it a bit odd to be jumping like that in a crupper.

Never seen one of those before either! Horse looks happy enough in it though, and is jumping well, so must be doing something!!

Davey is quite good with his website I must admit!

I didn't watch the link but I knew immediately what you meant as nearly all stallions that race in the UK wear that particular piece of equipment :)

Yes, this is quite often seen on the continent. It is used on stallions who have er ...low hanging balls; or those that don't draw them up when jumping.....!

Really? have to admit Ive never seen it on any!

Well, you learn something new every day!

ETA... Im already laughing at the thought of the young girls at the pony club finding out what this is for.....:P

When did that start then? I used to watch racing solidly for about 6 years in the 1980s, and never saw anything like that on the stallions.

Same over here. Most of the STB pacers or trotting stallions wear them.
Intrigued to find out why!

ETA: I have had a lot of exposure to stallions in the past, but this one is still new to me.
