I always have my mobile on me when hacking and always tell the yard Im off for a hack - they know the routes I use. Luckily I have only ever fallen off once on a hack when a dog went for my horse - he spun and bucked at the dog and I was thrown over his shoulder. He took about three canter strides then stopped to eat - yes he was clearly terrified. Honestly I dont think he would go that far unless he was truly and spectacularly terrified and even then the forest where I ride is fenced for miles so he wouldnt easily be able to gallop onto a road without bending himself round the entrance or jumping a 5 bar gate - he would probably jump into the fields next door to the forest and settle himself down for a munch
