Vet came out today to look at my 15h highland x, 12yo, he not been right for few weeks so she came out and said that basically he cant be jumped he can only be a hacking horse she also looked at my pony and said sam, pony is 14.2, fine built n is 19, so i can understand that. i was doing xc, sj and dressage with both but now i cant cos the sj makes his ringbone worse. what would you do? would you be selfish and get another one? problem is i cant afford 3 liveries! What can i do with 2 happy hackers? i really want to jump and compete but i think my days of that are over. advice please and hugs if there is any going

Agree with loaning them out. That way you can keep an eye on them and still be involved, but you get to do your showjumping. It's not selfish. If you keep them as happy hackers but you're not happy doing that, in a while you'll start to resent them (that's a harsh word and not quite the right one) but you don't want to start blaming your horses if you're not happy. Much better for them too if they can go to someone who just wants to hack out.
 
Firstly - I'd let myself adjust to news. Don't beat yourself up over making a decision straight away, it takes time to get your head around something like that and its dissappointing.

You'll think straighter once its had time to sink in. Friend of mine used to do all that with her 12 yo but he got navicular and he is now a happy hacker. Her immediate reaction was to send him away as she couldn't face seeing him not doing what he loved to do (jump) but as time passed she got more used to what she could and couldnt' do and adjusted herslef to his new lifestyle.

Maybe you could consider getting a loaner or something to enable you to get another one?

Do people loan horses any more these days? pony is amazing wee girl that what bugs me, in open field she stops cantering when i stopped on the other horse and she had very novice rider on her, she has taken a novice rider cantering through stubble fields and jumped drop bankings. shes a great wee girl and he is totally bombproof, hed be perfect for RDA as he is weight carrier but dont think they would take him.
 
if he's perfect for RDA i wouldn't rule that out, they are usually on the look out for bona fide saints.
yes, lots of people are desperate to borrow horses, see post last night about HHOer who advertised a horse for sale and has had 5 calls asking if it's available for loan...!
i'd just say, vet the home VERY carefully if you are going to let them leave your place.

ring around some RDA centres then- i suspect that they will consider any horse if its safe

its not selfish at all. its how i ended up with 2 horses as my TB won't stand up to lots and lots of jumping...
