What practices in the horse world do you consider cruel?

You forget sparkly hoof varnish...

Or heaven forbid the wrong shade of pink sparkle - you might dent your gelding's feeling of masculinity :p

OMG I had not thought of that ,and what about making them wear last seasons Ankys matchy matchy at serious dressage clinics ,would they recover.

Thankyou, I have indeed missed some important points.
- not following advice from the 'roll up, roll up' thread.
- pulling/trimming
- leaving horses natural
- diy livery
- assisted livery
-part livery
- full livery
- keeping them on rented land
- keeping them on your own land

You forgot:

- Keeping horses
- Not keeping horses

People winding horses up and shouting and screaming at them in order to show everyone how brave and how great with horses they are.

I think Littlelegs covered most ;)

Yes fburton, very cruel. Much kinder to balance them on your head & allow horse to pick them up. Not that I would ever do anything so un bhs. And I certainly wouldn't allow my hatless 7yr old to hold one end of a carrot in her mouth while my oldie picks it up from the other end. Definitely not.
Oh dear, that was a rather loud and obvious *whoosh* (over my head), wasn't it? :o That'll teach me!

Leaving horses absolutely freezing their ears off to make them loose weight. I knew someone who did this, they had a 27 year old pony who was apparently fat- he had cushings, he was left unrugged outside in an icy blizzard in -7 shaking all over. The girl told me to leave him out to loose weight- I totally ignored her and brought him in, he could hardly stand up the poor thing :(

1) twitching - most people will disagree with my opinion but there are other ways of calming/controlling a horse such as using calming remedies and herbs instead of grapping their lip.
2) people overjumping their horse
3) rollkur :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
4) people drugging up their horses for better performance
5) using strong bits incorrectly
