How long is a piece of string? A sturdy well mannered, safe cob without any issues is probably priceless. Not many of them about, if you were really really lucky maybe 7k if the seller wanted to sell to you and was keen to sell in a hurry, otherwise 3k plus 1k per year of age.

Like this one on horsequest? Does it jump or do any dressage or mainly a hacking horse. I think it is hard to say without more information. I think under 10k unless a show cob or unless it has a competition history.

this is interesting reading…have seen 2 cob ponies recently for a LOT of money and I’m not sure they are priced right?!

13.2 cob, 9yrs that has done a bit of competing for £15,000 but recently reduced to £13500…obviously no takers as the woman keeps posting she will consider an offer (it would have to be half that for me to be interested)

14.1 cob, 15yrs old that has done a lot of BE and a fairly substantial competition history for £17k…lots of comments on her post that the price is crazy.

So what is a fair price for a cob pony because they seem to vary from £4k-17!

I'd agree both are on the high side because of height/age. Are they steady as a rock? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Goodness, we must have a fortune in the field!

Got a 13yo solid mare out for £3k at the moment with very little interest. She's a bugger to handle but a good little hack.

The dealer near me who does this type is around £6k.

Really depends on quality and schooling.

How is she difficult to handle? I don't want a mare, or to travel far, nor am I ready to buy, but I like to fantasize.

What’s the average price these days for a sturdy cob 14.3 piebald 9 yr old / steady as a rock
Couple of dealers I keep an eye on would be £4000 to £6000 depending on what it's done . The 4 would be for something that's mostly been driven so seen a lot but needs some schooling ridden. The 6 would be jumping, at least a bit. I notice they are selling more slowly than last year (winter weather?) and "offers" sometimes appears on the ads.
Would be a lot more with showing or breeding potential or a competition record.

ETA - not recommending any of these but to give you the idea of prices that you asked for. The first one is in a fairly remote location so might have been more if somewhere with more buyer options.

As others have said, very much depends on what the horse has done/his schooling.
If he's solid as in unflappable, but light off the aids, forward going and well mannered, that's much more valuable than solid but requiring the leg strength of Arnie to keep him in trot.
If he jumps, has hunted, competed, can do a nice dressage test, that again will increase the value. A happy hacker isn't worthless, but people generally won't pay huge sums for something to potter round the lanes on, particularly if the horse is only hacking due to soundness issues or because he gets overwhelmed at shows/fun rides.

A fantasy herd is the best way 😂

She's just bargey, nothing nasty but no manners. I think a new home with firm manners from the start and she'd be fine.

Otherwise perfect, pretty girl, lots of hair, very solid. I'm surprised no one has taken her. They did way over price at first but I think about right now. Owner won't sell to dealers or travellers though which is the main market round here.

I have seen prices drop. A new forest from the dealer I got Bert from has dropped from 10k to 8.5k. The prices tend to be higher near school holidays. Anything that didn't sell during half term I would expect the prices to fall unless they don't mind hanging on till Easter. People looking for pony club ponies ready for the competition season often do a lot of viewings during half term whilst the kids are off school. Parents are often taking some time off during half term which makes viewings easier.

It is still a bit dark in the evenings to do viewings after work especially if they are not local.

Well I rang up about one that was advertised for £15k and said our budget is a lot less (high 4's at a push) and they said that would be acceptable if the home is right...so perhaps people are just hoping?? Hard to tell people their horses do not seem to be worth the price tag, I'm always terrible at negotiating!
