I have an Arctic Cat (400 I think, I'd like a more powerful one) and I would recommend it for everything, I love my Quadly. It certainly earns its' gas and shelter.

I use it for everything, hauling wood, harrowing, pulling the muck trailer, bringing in hay, delivering hay, exercising the dogs and horses, snow ploughing, getting from a to b, absolutely everything, although it isn't quite strong enough to shift the horse trailer or some of the heavier gear and it does get bogged down if the snow is more than a couple of feet deep. It is also road licensed and takes me to visit people too.

Tractor, I have no idea what ours is, small, red, temperamental and in the way mostly.

It all depends n how much land you have as to what works best. when I had a small amount of land ( 6 acres) I found a quad was fine. It could pull a logic topper, a small harrow and a poo picker. However I now have 30 acres, so have a small tractor - a Siromer with a front loader. add ons for a tractor 3 point hitch are far cheaper than quad tools. I can get a topper for £500 new for my tractor - but can also find loads second hand for £150. I harrow, I top, I roll, i poo pick I level the arena, I use a bale spike for large bale haylage. I maintain the muck heaps. I carry fencing stakes, I take out buckets of feed to my outside horses and I muck out into it in deep snow when pushing a wheel barrow is hopeless. I use the front lift to move my portable XC fences and the front bucket to clear the drives and paths of snow. So my tractor gets used on a daily basis. I would only really use a Quad for getting round teh land fast - but to be honest it would be a luxury not a necessity.

We've got a little kubota tractor, it's getting on a bit and we got it third hand. We've about 6 acres and use it to muck pick, pull the trailer, chain harrow, roll, spread and level the arena. And anything else we can find to use it for.

*touch wood*
We haven't had any problams with it in four years apart from general wear and tear.

Don't have any quads, but plenty of tractors.
John Deere 3640 & 2850 with loader.
Fordson Super Major.
Several incomplete Fordson Majors.
Allis Chalmers Model U.
2 old Internationals.
Fordson Dexta.

My fave is the Dexta. Its small and easy to use and is fine for topping, chain harrowing, rolling and haybobbing. You can buy vintage tractors for around £1500 depending on the condition and they are great for maintaining paddocks. Parts are easy to get. Go for a diesel not TVO.

Kubota the best small tractor if you have a small acreage for bigger areas a 135 massey or small ford is a good choice .. I would avoid quads.. dangerous if not used carefully and are oftern stolen so need extra security which is a pain
