What quirks does your dog have?

My old lab has always done what we call 'scrunchies' :o that is when she scrunches up her nose so it almost looks like she is growling, but she actually only does is when she's very happy to see you or wants cuddled! Very strange and not sure where she got it from, does anyone elses do this?

Would be interested to hear what your dogs do too :D
 
One of the yards I work at has a border collie who does that, it's so sweet!!

My beagle x is a very chatty little madam, and always has the last word! She also likes to sit on the backs of the sofa like a cat or use the arm rest like a human!!
 
Mine chats and grumbles quite a lot - I see it as her 'talking' (god knows what she's saying though but she rarely shuts up! :) )

She also like to suck and kneed her favourite toy to get herself off to sleep.
 
My old boy "talks" when he wants out - this comes in the form of a very loud yawn that actually sound like him saying "out". If fact if you as him to say out he'll do it.

He's also a bit OCD - needs routine - deviation from his routine turns him into a nervous wreck. He needs to pick his walking routes -if you try to take him a different route to the one he wants to go he'll point blank refuse to go.

He's almost 12 now and his quirks are definitely more prominent than they used to be.
 
Our Lancashire Heelers smiles, its a trait of the breed and one of my previous LHs also smiled. Pip also talks in that we have conversations, she can be taken out for the day and will rush in to tell me all about it. I will say did you have a good time and she will really sound as though she is talking, she will then stop and I will ask another question and she talks again. Its not barking,growling or whining but definately a different sound, surprisingly she dosnt do it with anyone else.
 
I have 2 boxers. The dog will only eat one type of biscuit in the morning ( a mini markie) and one type of biscuit in the afternoon (a gravy bone). If you offer him the wrong one at the wrong time of day he'll just trun his head away from you and refuse to take it. The bitch will eat anything at any time, but she especially likes to lick bare toes, so beware if you forget your slippers in the house!
 
R sucks and kneads on cushions to get himself to sleep, is scared of heights and moving surfaces and forgets to stop drinking when he's started (weeks and weeks of investigations into his leaky bladder concluded with 'idiopathic polydipsia', i.e he's an eejit who drinks for no reason).

Two or three times a week he will suddenly get up from wherever he's lying and climb into my lap on the sofa - doesn't matter what I'm doing, what I've got in my lap etc., he forces his way on there, plonks himself down, tucks his head under my chin and requires cuddling tightly. We call this 'Ricoh needs love'. It lasts about 15 minutes before he hops down and acts like it never happened.

Dax lies in the bay window in the front room, frequently causing tourists to stop and do a double-take. :D
 
Mine has an irritating toilet habit! Some days she will look most uncomfortable, walk very close to heal - almost tripping you up. I know what she 'needs to do' but she almost won't do it unless you send her away, which then practically crosses the boundary (in her whippetty world) of being told off, so vicious circle really! It gets to the point where she HAS to go right there and then, leaving no time 'to prepare'! - Dim Dog moment I call it! After the deed has been done, she bounds off, all happy and very pleased with herself!!

She also loves visiting friends... want a black sofa cushion - she is your girl! She can be such a sneak as normally she knows 'sofa-dog' is NOT allowed!
She isn't a huge fan of any toy but does have 'hotdog' whom she can go potty over.
 
Mines got into the lovely habit of having to sit on me lol not so good as she's not the lightest at 22kgs! She does little circles about to make a nest then comes over does one over me then plonks herself down to sleep :)
 
Because I generally nip to the loo before going out, my girl gets all excited and runs around 'were going out, were going, yay! walkies' excited every time she hears the loo roll rattle on the wall, it doesn't matter if its 2 am she still does it, pick up her lead beforehand and she pays no attention whatsoever,


and then if anyone tuts she runs around the house manically looking for something? never have sussed out that one lol
 
You say garden and if he needs to go you get a kangaroo impression but if he doesn't he goes to bed :rolleyes: he also has mad 5 minutes where he slaps you with his paws and throws toys at you .. He's a strange one! :p
 
Youngster staffie gives a kind of growl,when seeing people she knows well, it's sort of a drawn out youwwwweee. Got middle stafford doing it now too. He also decides he wants cuddles at odd times and will just jump up on my lap. Due to his elbow displaysia he will only do certain walks so will only turn left when leaving the house....wil not go right !
 
If my girl needs a drink she gets up very quietly and does a comedy high leg tip toe to the water bowl she then slurps very noisily and kicks her back legs out one at a time ?

Jack Russells, mum and daughter. Total fruit loops lol, Mouse does it until it makes her sneeze and Dora just looks "special" lol.

Our old Wire Viz, Todd, used to "suckle" vet bed even as an oldie too. Her daughter Mia likes to hold your arm or hand in her mouth. I forgot to warn hubby when we were first seeing each other and as he walked in a bit behind me all I heard was "H she's grabbed my arm!!!" in panic as he thought she was about to savage him lmao!! She's softer than grease :rolleyes: Viz's talk lots too

My EBT believes that anything bad that happens to her is the fault of the spotty one - so he must be punished for it. eg I accidentally tread on her paw, the spotty is told off, even if he is asleep in the other room!
Now I have two spottys, well equally to blame!

Dalmatians are great smilers too, both mine do it. Smiling coupled with a slow tail wag that wags the whole body is usually a sign of a heavy burden of guilt with my boy so its usually greeted with 'oh god, what have you done THIS time??'

Mine lab has OCD about wiping her feet after she has had a wee. Its so funny she does it for ages on the grass - all four feet too.
 
Our Patterdale has what we call 'sads'. If she wants to go a walk she lies at your feet and hides her face in her paws, if she is ignored it escalates into huffing and shaking until she is practically vibrating. She also has sads if no one is paying attention to her, and enjoys washing our rabbit's ears very thoroughly.
 
My greyhound also smiles :) usually whilst laid on his back with all four legs in the air.. He also will not eat his last meal till both me and my OH are in bed, doesn't matter what time it is just point blank refuses to eat till we're all tucked in. Then when he has finally eaten I get the pleasure of a stinky burp right in my face before he settles down on his bed! Gotta love a greyhound....lol
 
Dylan: Always has to show you something when you first meet him tea towel/ kong or in my lucky land ladys case a deer head missing an eyeball!!! Luckily she found it funny. Bones and heads aside, when indoors Dylan likes to present you with toys/ shoes/ knickers....../
And I stupidly taught Dylan "close it" and as a result no door is left open in my house.............
If you tickle his tummy he smiles and sticks his tongue out between his canines.


Buster: Uses the hearth rug as a napkin and the sofa if we let him (normally correct him as thats minging). He also forgets that a 40kg dog should a)not balance on the arm of the sofa b) be a surrogate lap dog (thats Teals job duh).

Teal: He never jumps at me but at dinner time he does this weird backwards walking thing on his hind legs and then sits and waits. And if he see's a Kong Squeeky ball he wets himself.
 
my border collie Darcy has her dinner at 6pm every evening. she'll sit beside her bowl waiting at 5 to (god knows how she knows the time but rarely is she more than 10minutes out either side of 6pm!)

then when i pick up her bowl she scoots out of the room in excitement, practically skidding round the corner, out thru the open patio doors and bounds into the garden where she does a massive leap in to the air with all four feet and lands from a height smashing her nose into the grass almost like she can smell something under the soil... she alternates this with a stiff leg tip toe round the garden looking at the ground intently almost as if she stalking something under the soil before forecfully nose- butting the grass again and doing more funny deer leaps and more nose thumps.

her poor snoz must really be throbbing after a session of this behaviour- doesnt do much for the state of my lawn either :)

God only knows what she;'s doing, she's always done it. i really must video it and post it one day, maybe someone here can tell me!
its seems to be a way of letting out her excitement. then she'll trot back in and eat her dinner quite calmly.

My border collie learned to smile, think she figured out that when people enter the house they bare their teeth (maybe I'm giving her too much credit but that's what it seemed like anyway) and then my sisters dog learned it from her :D

My girl also now howls to say hello when you come into the house if she's not seen you in a while which is great except when I'm coming home from my boyfriends house at 10-11pm and my poor mum is asleep :D

Oh and instead of barking to get out to the toilet she lies in front of the door and breathes out really heavily into the crack at the bottom of the door over and over again till you let her out... made for interesting moments during toilet training at night ha ha!
 
My lab scoots when excited or being told he is too excited and calm down. It involves him almost sitting down but running in small circles like he had a rocket up his behind!
Fine in fields or garden not so fine in house where he will scoot and jump on sofa then over the back and ie anyone is Sat in way he will do to them too!
 
My poodle self-fellates on a regular basis - I mean to the point where if you call him and he suddenly comes running, he can't actually walk properly cos his willy is banging in to his knees! :eek:

My BT on the other hand doesn't really have too many quirks, I think he's just perfect - except that he snores rather loudly!
 
I have a parson JRT who has a blanky which she will go and get then sucks until she goes to sleep at night time, our cocker has to sleep at a height so will pile himself on cushions or the back of the sofa :) when I was little we had a SBT who used to dive- throw a stone in the river and he would dive down to the bottom, get it (9 times out of 10 it was just any stone) and fetch it back, he was obsessed with water!
