I always like to have at least one reliable reference book that I can turn to for advice in an emergency, whilst waiting for vet etc.

Anyone have a favourite reference book for horses? And if you do, why is it your favourite?

Ive got a few vetinary books and i always use my oldest one 60's/70's one that was given me years ago for looking something up

Veterinary Notes for Horse Owners by Capt. M. Horace Hayes; although you can probably get more up to date info from the internet nowadays.

This.

I completely wore one out after years of it living in a tackroom, it disintegrated. The new one lives in the house now and is liberally decorated with scraps of paper marking relevant ailments. It may not be right up to date but I get the gist of it, and as it, and my Vet are of the same generation it works for us.

The internet is great, but often a huge source of conflicting advice and opinions - take simple rain scald/rot for one. One article states it is is contagious and everything should be isolated, another gave more useful advice on symptoms, cause and treatment, and a half dozen others said other things. :( Sometimes too much info confuses the matter.

Ditto - mine (printed in 1921) is still much thumbed. Things haven't changed all that much...
