Ive put a few posts on regarding the cob's behaviour and finding out his neck was 'out' and has been for a long time.

Backman spent alot of time treating him the other day and said to give him 1 day off, 2 days walking on a long rein and then see what he is like.

So... what to do, should i just have some little steady hacks this weekend? Ive got a riding club training day a week on sunday (nothing too serious, just a introduction to jumping lesson (im v nervous about jumping) lol, and a prelim level flatwork lesson.

Im also going to book some lessons after to try and get him working properly (obviously gradually), with a good dressage trainer.

Considering he got 63%'s with his bad neck, im hoping we can develop and get him ready for the winter dressage RC league......

Any tips or exercises i can do with him on a hack would be appreciated..... :)

When my lad has had the back lady, I usually rest him and then just hack on a loose rein for a day or so, before picking up the work again.
I guess some loopy circles and gentle bending work on both reins once you are back in work will give him the opportunity to stretch, and I would also encourage him to stretch down.
I find the best way to do this is to trot on a large circle and gradually let him take the rein, whilst keeping your leg on to encourage him forward. Keep the outside rein enough to support him and give with the inside rein. He should start to stretch down and round your inside leg.

Thanks filicker, that is actually one of the things he couldnt do before the back man sorted his neck out, i will give it a go next week.

We got a very poor mark in Intro B for the lack of streching in trot when you do the circle and give your reins away - he actually tensed up more when i pushed him into a longer rein.

I can't wait to see what he is like now all the pain is gone, i just i did'nt want to ask too much too soon. :)
