What rug/rugs do you travel your horses in in winter that's smart enough for going hunting/competing etc?
Looking for a winter travel rug but on a bit of a tight budget which doesn't really stretch to thermatexs and Coolexs. Cooling not such an issue, I have a variety of sweat sheets, 'string vests' and the like and am happy to layer on way home!!- just looking for something warm for a clipped horse.

Was thinking about this?

Thanks :)

I have a couple of Weatherbeeta fleeces including a full neck one which I layer, have a good look around as I got them all on sale for less than £15 each! I also got a weatherbeeta rug very similar to the comfort zone one about for £15 from ebay last year which is brilliant on cold mornings.

The biggest problem with woolen day rugs is they can't really be washed - maybe I am just too fussy but I do like my travel rugs to be washed regularly to keep them looking smart.

I just box him up in his stable rug which is a full neck rambo underrug. If its really cold, I'll put a fleece on top. I generally travel with windows open (if only slightly) as I like having fresh air to them. :)

His underrug doesn't get too smelly, and it looks smart enough being plain navy. I can always bling it up with my black and pink fleece rub ;)

i was wondering about this too - last Feb i travelled my pony in a fleece and he was dripping in sweat after a 30 minute journey and he is chaser clipped so he was far too hot. i also think it depends if you have a trailer or lorry as trailers with the back open let in more cold air.

So i am thinking in investing in one of these for travel

Thanks everyone. Fleece seems like it would be a good choice, someone else reccomended the PE fleeces which i like the look of.
Tricksy and SO1, i like both those rugs! :D
Jane_Lou, good point I hadn't thought about cleaning :o I do have 2 free rug cleans that I won though so could keep it clean for a while! :p
I would just use stable rugs (I have a full neck fleece which I've been using for both travel and over night recently) but unfortunately he is so horrendously messy in his stable that anything he wears during the night looks totally disgusting! :o

SO1 I kind of have opposite issue to you- blanket (hunter soon) clipped and wimpy TB travelling alone in trailer, with back top doors open!

Thanks all

my trace clipped pony wears a smart mark tood fleece its plain navy with white rope stuff around its a bit small and has a few holes as its from his old home but its really warm and thick looks smart too

Plain cheapy masta fleeces on mine, did have a little waffle cooler for the sweaty ones but pony ripped it .. grrrr... Also got given a lovely green wollen rug for best which the racey pony uses, though find it a touch heavy for the rest of mine.
