What rugs are your horses in atm?

Unclipped warmbloods out 24/7 with a large barn (which they never seem to use!) unrugged and in light work.

Two older warmbloods are blanket clipped and out overnight in 200g with nofill necks.

Just this morning someone commented on how good my boy's coat was looking.

When I was a kid all we had was a green canvas New Zealand (which usually leaked) with a stitched in wool blanket. Horses are much more pampered than they used to be.

One of a horse's main ways of keeping warm is digesting food.

My IDxTB is hunter clipped and currently out during the day in a 250g (I think... might be 220g) MW full neck as it's v exposed where we are without much natural shelter or much of a wind break. At night, he's currently in a cotton sheet with fleece over the top, then a v light LW full neck on top of that. He has the least rugs on of anything on the yard bar the pony!

Clipped WB out in mw/hw (300gm) t/o with neck as he is having back treatment at the moment and I want him to stay toasty. Normally would still be in 200gm but its so wet and windy and with his injury I just wanted to wrap him up a little more! Can't believe people are layering already! I'll just put a fleece under his rugs when it gets freezing but thats it.

i live in highest village in Scotland the weather is wild here all year round.
our summer temp is 14c on a good day . we had snow last week , our temp tonight just now is + 1
for 5 months of the year we are at below freezing ,from -1 to -15
there is no way i could rug my horses and molly coddle them when the temp is above +2 .
i dont think its healthy for them.
i find it shocking that folk use so many rugs on there horses when the temp is so high.

Old welsh pony - out 24/7, unclipped, in a MW Turnout rug
30 year old TB x - MW Turnout rug in the day, MW Stable rug at night, although on warmer nights he wears a LW Stable rug because he is unclipped and gets too warm!
Connemara x pony (clipped) - MW Turnout rug in the day, Under rug and LW Stable rug at night.
ISH (clipped) - MW Turnout rug in the day, MW Turnout rug at night

All ours are out in no fill rainsheets other than one with a bib clip who is in a 40g FAL and one with a blanket clip who is in a 200g FAL. They live out 24/7 with plenty of shelter and are all fine.

We do make sure they have plenty of hay in the field morning and night so that they can keep themselves warm from the inside out.
