we had the first frost this morning and boy am I cold today!

My baby is now in her M/W Combo turnout and at night is in her thin combo underrug and 200g stable rug on top.

What are you guys rugging up in at the mo??

For me, I am in a thick jumper, stupid hat and gloves!!!

We had a first frost at weekend. My unclipped TB is in a lightweight turnout outside during day and a lightweight stable rug over night. Today he went out with the stable rug on underneath as was nippy, but I imagine he will be warm now.
I dont believe in putting lots of layers on early doors. If you start layering them now when in reality its only really that cold for a couple of hours, then you are stuck when it gets to proper winter!
He's perfectly warm enough and in good nick.:)

Mines in a fleece during the day and a medium stable rug on top at night. He is currently on box rest so in all day, not clipped and is fairly good about keeping weight on.

Mine is in a MW - she isn't clipped but she doesn't really have any coat. She's been in a LW until this week, was going to leave her in LW so she grew some coat but I've decided to clip at the weekend instead :)

Mine is out 24/7 in his lightweight. I really want to put him in a MW but he's just so warm! I don't understand because he normally gets cold quite easily. Oh and before anybody says, he's perfectly happy and normal in himself so is unlikely to have an infection :P

My unclipped TB is out naked 27/7 at the mo, and will be until, it turns really cold, we have had two frosts this week, but in Dorset so not as cold down here as some of you guys are experiencing further north.
I'm a strong believer of getting them to grow thier own coats first.
If they were clipped they'd be rugged.

This confuses me! Why do you want to put him in a heavier rug when he's happy in a lighter one!

Mine has been in a 115g stable rug at night and a rainsheet suring the day, however after how cold it was last night I have put him out in a medium today and will have a medium tonight.

Mine, is currently in a H/W turnout during the day and a thick stable on a night but last night he also had a duvet under the stable rug as it was frezzing!!

My TB mare is out 24/7 without a rug so is my youngster (TB x ID)
My TB x gelding is a big girl so has a LW-MW with a neck on and will be coming in over night in about 2 weeks.

Oh gosh, I am the only one using my red & silver rambo then! Well, I saw him a short while ago, and there is an icy wind whipping across his field and he is certainly not too warm. Also, I don't want him gallivanting about because he's cold, as he's supposed to be in recuperation!

My girl is in either a sheet or l/w during the day depending on how cold/windy it is. If theres no wind and is warmish then she'll be naked. At night she's in her H/W combo, as even though we're down south we are on the top of a hill and so get the worst of all weathers and her field is quite open. Although I do think part of it is me not being able to put her in anything lighter as I'm worried she'll get cold :o

Misinterpreted -im with you!!!! (as i live on top of a mountain in Wales ;) )

My boys are in medium weight combo's but Riley and Udo ar in HW as they are clipped out. They are living out at night at the minute and as said, it is very, very cold where i live. For the really cold, wet winter months they do have lovely indoor stables to live in :)

I'm harsh! well actually my TB is very a hairy good doer he gets too hot rather than too cold.
At night he has a l/W stable rug if i think its cold and just a fleece if not then in the day either a sheet or more recently a very lightly padded turnout with no neck.
He will have to be clipped very soon as he is so sweaty then i will be kinder and rug him more TB like!

Some of these horses must be boiling! My unclipped tb (hasn't grown much coat yet) is in a t/o with 70gms filling and either the same at night or a fleece with a neck.

clipped & in and was until last night in a combo fleece when I put a lw stable on over fleece. Funny beastie went from not eating to eating......

Or perhaps they're just not clones of your horse...

Also some places are colder than others. If mine was in anything lighter she would be freezing her bum off and very miserable. She is a thin skinned tb who feels the cold and drops weight easily.
I manage her so that she holds her weight and is happy and have done so successfully for 7 years. Can't see anything wrong in that.

My unclipped TB is out in a lightweight during the day and in, unrugged at night. The stables are indoor and about 5 degrees warmer than ambient temp outside. We had quite a good frost this morning, yet he was warm and toasty.

My tb mare is out during the day naked still. Thin fleece on at night. Same for all the tb's on our yard at the mo. Although clipping has started so will prob go into lightweights in the day soon once they have been clipped etc.
