Ridden in a fleece exercise sheet if it's not too cold, or a Newmarket sheet if it's quite cold

[/ QUOTE ]

Why did you full clip if you're then going to ride in an exercise sheet?

Why not???????

Mine is in a medium/heavy weight in the day, and a medium with neck + a lightweight sheet on top at night.

[/ QUOTE ]

What on earth are you going to do when it gets cold?

I see you're in Solihull, where the weather for the next few days is forecasted at 16-18 F, and sunny...

Horses can be just as uncomfortable when they're too hot, as when they're cold

Because what's the point in full clipping? Plus it's no way cold yet... surely you full clip if you horse is working hard and sweating, in which case they should be warm when working and not need an exercise sheet. Seems like a lot of extra hassle for nothing imo.

Monty is unclipped and in a no fill turnout with a fleece underneath day and night.

Zoomy is hunter clipped and she has a no fill full neck turnout with a 110g quilt underneath day and night.

I think because mine is part Appaloosa he dosen't seem to grow much of a winter coat so he has not been clipped at all yet! and he seems quite happy in he is still toasty warm when he comes in, in his lightweight combo. He is in at night and out in the day though.

All on 1st clips too- Pip (fully clipped a while back) and Ajay (Bib clip) are naked. Bullet, Ginga and Richard are in MW's with new blanket clips

Toto has a hunter, not a full clip, he'd look funny without his huge hairy 'legwarmers' haha

He is in fairly moderate work, and grows an extremely thick bear coat. When worked with his winter coat he got sweaty and hot on his neck, girth, shoulders, and got clammy and hot all over, so he had a hunter clip because it fits his needs. He wears an exercise sheet so his hindquarters don't get cold if he's working in walk or standing, he is bald after all

Becuase he gets hot and sweaty all over when worked with his full coat, making him uncomfortable and it takes ages for him to cool off and be ok to be tucked up in his jammies. We clip to his needs

My cob has a hunter clip and is in a MW combo turnout when 0ut, and a MW with no neck at the mo in. He has had the neck cover on when it was cooler last week.
I use an exercise sheet when I begin schooling, or if it's wet, my old pony tied up very badly and I don't want that to happen to my gorgeous boy. I do take it off once he's warmed up.

taz and molly are both in medium weights over night and light weight turnouts during the day both are chaser clipped and only on clip one i only have to clip three times a year if im lucky
smile.gif

Mine have been clipped 3 times (full) for B and twice for Joe (blanket) B is in a 100g full neck turnout and a 200g full neck at night, J is in a 100g full neck turnout and 100g full neck stable at night. They will both be clipped again week after next, so roughly every 3 weeks until Xmas, then they will both have a final full clip at the end of January.

No, it wouldn't. As I said he grows a very very thick coat as he is half native. He'd still be getting clammy on his hindquarters

We discuss his clipping with the riding instructor who clips him and the vet who comes to sedate him, so we're sure he's getting the right clip

Yes unless it's very cold, I take the sheet off once he's warmed up

[/ QUOTE ]

Right that makes more sense.... still surely it would have made more sense to do a high blanket and remove the need? But each to their own

I do get that. I had a TB who had to be clipped as he got very furry and when excited he sweated up and it took ages to cool him off. However, clipping off his bum made him into a raving lunatic, so for my sanity he wore an exercise sheet until he was worked in or if we were hacking and it was frosty

Because, or a hack you really aren't galloping around and getting hot and sweaty. Out hunting and competing, then you are. Ta da, there's your reason. Not every horse is a happy hacker- some are in heavy work and need it all off for their own comfort.

Clipping our two tomorrow! Both are full TBs, with pretty fine coats. Cheeky will have a tracer clip, and Reggie will probably have a blanket clip or a hunter. Rugs, Cheeky is in a lightweight full-neck during the day and a fleece and a lightweight stable rug at night, and Reg is in a mediumweight turnout rug 24/7. Cheeky needs the extra warmth as he's an old boy (25, but I wish he'd act it!) and Reggie still has a summer coat.

It still seems quite warm to me! Milly my warmblood isn't clipped yet - need to get the blades sharpened, but she is not that hairy at all. She wears a no fill lightweight if it is particularly wet, and come in at night. Only the last two evenings have put her fleece on her over night but to be honest she could probably manage without until she is clipped.
Little pony exmoor x shetland is out 24/7 with cosy shelter, not clipped yet wither but so fluffy she is naked!

My pony is chaser clipped and out 24/7 and in a LW after all it is very mild forecast to be 19c this week.

I'm sure I must be incredibly cruel. Mine has a hunter clip (he's IDxTB but a real MW type), been done 2 weeks. He is out during the day ATM in a Lw (no fill) with full neck. When it was colder and wet last week, he had a cotton sheet under it if needed. At night he has a 110g fill full neck stable rug on, though last night he just had his cotton sheet on as when I checked him before leaving at 6.30pm he was sweating.

Everything else on the yard is rugged up to the eyeballs (and boiling hot under their rugs) but I don't see the point if he's going to stand there sweating
crazy.gif

2 high chase clipped and 1 full front back to just behind girth, all out 24/7 nekkid as the day they were born and sweating like pigs still, this weather is un-real, it's way too hot to rug them at all at the moment.

Mine is currently in masta medium weight turnout, minus neck cover as it is being repaired during the day and at night he is wearing a thick almost wool but not wool if you know what i mean
crazy.gif
Buccas rug and a sheet on top. He is not yet clipped as I just havent had time.

I clip year round, although he's quite hairy at the moment because I haven't got round to doing it.

He was naked today as it was nice and sunny, otherwise he has a lightweight (no fill) during the day and a 100g with neck at night.

on 3rd clip. she had full clip beg sept, legs, head everything then beg oct had hunter and last week was done again.

She has only a rain sheet as so mild. if cold has medium rug on. my clippers are medium blade so leaves some hair on, she does still get sweaty though so glad shes done.

Clipped once, desperate for anothe rone now...sweaty monster, in a lightweight rug almost rain sheet.......have my 300gm ready for when he is completely bald!!!
