What rugs are yours in today......

Blanket clip, 100g turnout out with 100g neck cover.
Welsh D good doer carrying a little extra weight

No rug, unclipped, new forest pony
 
heavyweight as she is warmblood and it is 4oC here with a windchill on top plus colder at night. she has a bib clip and is in work 4 -5 times week.
 
tbxcon first yr unclipped and hes naked and very happy!!
little cob very hairy and also naked.im only going to rug if its really windy and raining as they dont have much shelter in field.

I believe in keeping horses as natural as possible but we do have to remember that alot of horses today (ie warmbloods, tbs, wimpy ones :rolleyes:) have been selectively bred and are therefore not adapted to keep themselves warm like the more native types.

Just didn't want people with thin skinned tbs reading and thinking 'ok no rug for him all winter' I'm sure people on here have more sense but you never know! ;)

There are plenty of TB's and WB's that are quite capable of surviving the hardest winter with no rugs if they have their natural coats and plenty of forage actually:)

If you read the other replies above you will see that others have NAKED TB's:rolleyes:

The OP has a Shire X so I am sure it will have a more then adequate coat to deal with the weather:)

Horses of all types are capable of survivng in our weather - they are designed to do so.
 
My unclipped tbx is out in 100 gm no neck. It's 5 degrees here and feels colder in the wind. He's not grown much of a winter coat at all- its very very fine but I'm trying to keep him in the lowest rug possible- something is telling me it's going to get a lot colder and I want to have options when the time comes !
 
my 4 year old WB who was clipped 2 months ago but now has most of it grown back in had a HW turnout on today in field, and tonight has a 100g under rug with a HW stable on top, he needs to put weight on though and oh yes its snowing here ;-( and boltic....!

He is normally naked but I did put his turnout on tonight as forecast to chuck it down and it did, still raining now. Don't mind him being out naked at all except when it's going to be raining heavily xx
 
yesterday Chico was in a LW no neck but when he came in for the night i shoved my hand down his rug and he felt cold :(

So today he went out in a MW combo (would have preferred a MW no neck but i dont have one!!) and came back in nice and cosy. :)
 
Unclipped, nothing today ( wish I had it rained whilst we were out and he was frozen ) and stable rug at night.

Wish I did not have to, but he is always soo cold, to the point if shivering, and he is a sec A !!!!! Me thinks he needs to man up :)
 
The weather here has been horrible all day, wet & windy with some sleet. There is some natural shelter but no field shelter in our field.
They were all out with just their own coats, including the 30 yr old cob. They came back in at 4.00pm and were all absolutely fine, not a shiver to be seen! The Westphalian did glare at me as she stood under the wall after about 10 mins outside but I ignored her.
The Shires that I have had in the past were all absolutely fine out in wet & wind, so long as they came in overnight for a break.
 
Naked.

Lives half way up a big hill overlooking the sea, so not the most sheltered of positions. The weather forecast give a windchill of -7 tonight, but he will be fine in his lovely thick and toasty natural fur coat :)
 
They all have lightweights on. Some are clipped some are not but it's been very wet and windy and the field is very exposed. They are happier with their portable shelters (rugs) on. If I didn't rug I would never get to ride
