what rugs do u have on today?

thank you everyone whohas commented so far. this will be a regular thread for me through out winter! as rug choices is one of the main dramas of day haha x

This is my main dilemma aswell so glad am not on my own. My 18yr old cob/hunter type has hunter clip and out in a medium weight turnout (200g) with neck. Will move into a heavyweight (300g) with neck when it gets colder. Although he is a good-doer in summer he drops weight fast in winter.

I think i must be the only one who has mine in a heavy weight! (300g) i do have the horseware liner system though so have the option to go up to 600g or maybe more when it gets colder. My horse is fully clipped and is a bit of a wimp! Hates the rain and would much rather be in!

No your not alone!! my wimpy tb is still a bit skinny so keeping him extra toasty in his full neck 350gm ,my sec A is a wooly as a bear and in a medium standard neck at night but naked in the day, my sec D is just naked (he takes his own rugs off -how do they do that?):rolleyes:

None, I don't find it easy to get rugs to fit me... :D

Hairy yearling is naked, trace clipped (now slightly hairy again) oldish cob is in a MW and the fully clipped highland is in a (heavier end of) lightweight with neck...

IDxTB, blanket clipped (quite a high blanket though, IYSWIM) in a 70g PE rug with neck. Has that on with neck overnight in field and neck removed while in during the day. It's suddenly gone v cold here, 7C compared to about 13C a couple of days ago. I'm going to see how he feels first thing tomorrow and if he's too cold will put a sheet under the 70g for another layer.

Depends on the horse!
I have a 'well covered' hairless cob who feels the cold but out in the field he just has on a lightweight but in at night he has a sheet blanket and medium night rug whereas a TB also fully clipped was to hot with a sheet and medium rug on at night.

Ours are all unclipped and living out. The two ponies are still naked and my TB has a lw (40g) on overnight. He had his rug off today as the sun was out - it's been fairly miserable the last few days though so he's had a no-fill rug on to keep the wind + wet off.

I'm now debating what rugs to put my two in tonight! I hate this in between stage! At least in winter it's hw's and summer it's fly rugs!!

That's the one!
(Eventually ;) )

shhhhhhhh I messed up the link 'cos I didn't want to give anyone an inferiority complex... It's bad enough I give everyone pins and needles by making them kneel down whenever they're in my presence

My boy was fully clipped today so he is wearing his H/W stable rug tonight as it is a bit chilly here. My other boy still has all of his winter coat and is wearing a thick fleece rug.

Just because I have an IQ higher than Einstein, am the real author of the Harry Potter series and am a direct descendant of Shakespeare

:D

I wasn't aware Einstein ever carried out an IQ test? They are not something I agree with anyway, too easily misinterpretated and abused :D

PS Have you ever read 'A guinea pig's history of biology' - lots of interesting bits about Intelligence testing showing its links to eugenics

Mine are out 24/7 - the tb is holding the weight lovely, its 6 degrees here tonight (current) and shes wooly and in a MW combo with a woolen blanket underneath (blanket as of yesterday) fed twice per day sugarbeet, barley and chaff and plenty of hay - cob has an almost grown back bib clip naked and like a bear and a bit fat! welsh yearling is naked too and wooly

Well he didn't like to brag about it so dear old Great Uncle Albert kept it very quiet. He did share the results with his close friends and family though :p

You're right they are total nonsense. My judge of intelligence is to ask people if they understand Quantum mechanics. If they say no, they're probably idiots. If they say yes, they're definitely idiots..

I have not encountered that... wanders off to look it up...

I can send you my copy if you want; not exactly highbrow reading but quite fun (although I am slightly obsessed with Gregor Mendel and his pea plants  :o )

My tb x Connemara has her weatherbeeta landa m/w combo on and my cob who is clipped (trace clip) has his weatherbeeta genero m/w combo on, both live out
