Just because I can :D

Mines in a 300g Amigo Combo with Snuggy TO head out in the field and 200g Standard Neck in the stable at night - Temperature is about 11 in the day and 5 at night ....

Mine are in l/w amigo turnouts during the day and l/w (100/150g) stable rugs at night. Got roughly the same temperatures as you but mine are fluffy natives :)

Ive got my girl in a medium weight combo. Shes not clipped as yet. When I left yard last night was 2 degrees. Clipping tomo and will go to heavyweight.

Mine is in during the day. Was foggy and cold (7C) when I got him in just before 8am. He was out last night in a 70g PE rug with neck and was warm enough underneath. By the time I'd ridden, the sun was out and it was beautiful (and warm) so he's stabled with just a cotton sheet on for the day... and plenty to eat to keep himself warm. Has a blanket clip and is quite a warm horse :)

So do we think Frecks (Chaser clipped WB) will be warm enough in the stable with just a skinny padded (i was being generous at 200g) rug or should I increase?

it is still so warm!

Ours are in:
hunter clipped tough bird (but needs doing again) - cotton sheet with 40g no neck over
chaser clipped, but a sensitive flower - 100g no neck.

Since it is so warm and people are puting h/w on already, what on earth rug do you use when it acutally is cold?!

Mine are naked!

They are babies though and will not get a rug on at all even in deeepst snow. Possibly get a rain sheet if we have days of persistant rain to stop them getting wet through. If i stuck so much as a rain sheet on them now they'd sweat. it is obviously warmer this year as mine have a tiny winter coat compared to the yaks I had last year.

I think to be honest you're doing it a bit backwards - horses can move about in field to keep warm, which they can't do in the stable. So if I have a horse that needs to be rugged, they are in the same or heavier in the stable unless in a nice warm barn. Plus, agree with the colder weather - what rugs will he have then? I'd expect the average WB type like Frecks would be in 200g at the mo in the field. But I am a mean witch who has naked horses!

Mines got a blanket clip, he has a lightweight stable rug with a medium weight turnout rug over it at night, and he just has the medium turnout in the day!

My mare is on box rest so isnt clipped and has a medium weight stable rug.

Cosy horses!! x

hunter clip girly fresianxwarmblood (basically grown back) in a 250g combo in day 11degrees here. and a fleece with neck a m/w standard neck tonight . 3 degrees tonight

I think 2 degrees is cold!! Maybe my horse is a wimp! :D

It's so mild here for November it's unreal. Between now and Monday, even at night, the weather reports say no lower than 9C and as high as 14C!!

The sleek coated TB is generally wearing her lw/mw, which just has a tiny bit of fill.

My connie x TB, who is chaser clipped, (although it's grown out a fair bit), is right now in a LW, no fill, to keep him clean. Sometimes recently he's been in his 100gm rambo, but I took it off to wash it earlier this week and it's turned so mild that I'm waiting till it drops again before I put it back on him.

Oh, and my retired girl is naked... Well, unless you count the rug she's 'made' herself :D:

Oooh you're all rugging quite thick already aren't you? My tb is not clipped but has virtually no coat & today is in a l/w no fill with just a thin lw stable rug underneath.. yesterday it was 7 degrees & he was in 170g combo as it was pretty windy. I've popped down to check him & he's always been warm. At night he's stabled & has been in a medium weight when it went down to 4 night before last & was toasty when i got there early in the morning.

Thanks for the replies :) He is never too hot, so and didnt feel as snug coming out the stable this morning so maybe down to 150/200g combo outside and Med weight combo indoors...

Last year I didnt have this problem.. I have a scrawny fully clipped TB so she was rugged to the eyeballs at all times!! These WBs confuse me :D
