I am at an utter loss .... mare was ridden in a Stubben M, I then changed to an Ideal Grandee MW, which then needed the tree to be made to a W.

She has now changed shape again and the saddle is not right IMO. The widening of the tree was the last shot and my saddler suggests a M2M Black Country saddle - but I have no experience of this make?!?? Anyone??

After finding a fab new trainer, my riding has completly changed and my mare is now carrying herself and using herself properly.

I am guessing due to our reformed-ness she has muscled up in the right areas, whereas before she wasnt working properly and the Stubben was pinching her.

So what saddles are suitable for a W-XW flat back, round ribbed ISH?

I dont care if it is pink with green spots tbh .....

My cob is very wide and although has a wither its not a big one! We found the Thorowgood T6 Cob saddle fitted really well with the balancing straps and the cob girth to keep it in place. Mine has the Fish inserts so it can be adjusted if he puts on or looses weight. Apparently the Kent and Masters Cob saddles are good too but ive never had one..

Black County, Frank Baines and Ideal tend to have a flatter tree and suit broarder types, you could also try the synthetic TG cob, you'd also have the option to change the gullets too.

Ditto Ideal H&C....Hairy in siggy is in one that fits him, can't get much wider or short coupled lol! :)

I have a wide, short backed Fell pony; we have an Ideal working hunter in wide, fits really nicely. I broke him in in an older Ideal which was more GP cut (stamped wide) and he'd expanded out of it within 2 months. My working hunter is much newer and although it is also stamped wide it is definitely much wider, also being a WH it is more straight cut and frees up his shoulder. Lots of people with wide flat backed horses I spoke to recommended Ideals.

I have a Kent & Masters Cob saddle and I love it - nice leather, and interchangeable head plates for when they change shape are only £15 each, and you can do it yourself (if you have a selection of plates and know what you're doing!)
Seems to stay put with the girth on straps 2 & 3.
Not bad price either, mine was £670 new.

My friend has the Cob+ (closer contact panels) and she seems to get on well with that.
