Luckily one of my old saddles fits my new horse, Edward, but I am getting the saddler out on Monday morning because I want a new leather saddle. I have never bought new before so any recommendations please? We will mainly be hacking out, schooling and doing low level dressage. I don't usually jump and if I ever do it's only tiny jumps.

you probably want a slightly more dressage cut GP saddle so you have the security hacking but a good saddle to school and compete in.
I quite like albions and barnsby leather saddles but it's up to you which brand and make you choose - different seat depths and position of saddle flaps are all personal preferences

VSD, very slihtly straighter cut than a GP, so suited towards dressage/showing etc etc.

Ive just ordered my youngster a saddle company saddle. Its a working hunter one with a deep seat. Getting on Sunday so i'll let you know how its is. Chose the working hunter as its straighter than a GP but not as straight as a dressage. I also had the extra option (free of charge) for the deep seat.

Thanks everyone. It is definitely down to personal preference with saddles but I am interested to hear what everyone rates most highly. When you are spending a lot of money it is a bit nerve wracking I always think. I don't want to make an expensive mistake!

I had an albion K2 for my old horse and loved it but could not quite afford that price for my baby as she is going to change shape so much so have opted for the saddle company part synthetic part leather one as it changes to fit and its far cheaper. Plus when I sat in the dressage saddle I just fell in love with it!!!

That's good. I hope that I find one that I fall in love with on Monday. The one that he was supposed to come with was awful and it was brand new! I told them they could keep it because I didn't even want the hassle of trying to sell it.

im on a bit more of a budget then what the albion's and the like costs. So once neddy has finished filling out, i think im going to have a look at the oakfields ones. The ones ive seen are very comfy to ride in and are good quality for a decent price. However If i had the money i suppose i would spend more. I also dont want my saddle to be worth more than the horse so these ones that you can get for £1500-1800 probably are

Have you thought about getting a second hand one?? Even if it's nearly new you can get a much better quality one for the money.
