What saddles do you use on your wide cobs?

Can just see it - it's an xxxxw ;)

Thorowgood T6 : not enough lift at the front for current cob (panel were too shallow) but perfect on the previous wither high, heavy shouldered welsh.

Wintec wide: panels massively too long, even with a much smaller seat. Rolled and rocked.

Saddle Company cob: fitted well apart from the panels also being too long.

Current saddle is an unbadged custom made WH made by an individual saddler in walsall. Fits like a glove as it has the exact panel spec I needed.

I tried Kent & Masters on mine but as soon as I mounted up he started ridgeing up his back as if to bronc, so a speedy re-assessment was in order (even though the "fitter" said it was a good fit!!!).

I got a lovely saddle here: www.thepainfreehorse.co.uk - so did my yard-sharer who kitted up all her ponies with the saddles.

You can read our testimony on their website!! (PM me if you want to know which we are!!!).

I did try treeless for mine, BUT with a wide cob with no withers it felt a bit like a fly sitting on top of a turd on a dungheap TBH!

Thanks for input everyone!

Any chance of seeing pictures of cobs with no wither, and those with a little wither? Would like to get an idea of how my cobs shape fits in with others.

I have a saddle company vsd on my very flat backed haffy, my mum has same saddle on her sec d with withers ! Very comfy both go very well in it and they are adjustable by a fitter when changing shape .. Trees are gtd for 10 yrs

So if I were to get a second hand saddle company saddle, the fitter could change it to fit to my horse?

Well they could widen the tree to fit but the whole gullet doesn't widen only the head. They don't fit my no withered appy but if anyone interested I'm selling 3 of them. All 17.5" one cob Havana, one black gp. & a dressage saddle.

Native Pony and Cob Saddle, the Phoenix Elite, just had it fitted yesterday, really nice, good quality comeptitively priced, nice reliable company to deal with. Make sure you call the correct company though, there are two very similar ones, I used the one from Weston Super Mare, I believe they cover most of the country, ask for S.Bloom to fit when you call, very helpful and knowledgable.

if you google saddle company you will find their website and links to their authorised fitters - then ask them the question - my saddle fitter often has second hand saddles for sale as well so worth giving them a call.
I have to say I wouldnt go for anything else now its a great saddle comfy for both my boy and me. My fitter adjusts on site and reflocks as necessary - far better to have it done there and then than send away - plus she always makes sure she sees us riding in the saddle to check how well it fits when riding not just standing.

Definitely Lavinia Mitchell, my cob is a 5x wide and the saddle they made for him has him going like a dream, and I've had years and years of problems. The fitter who came to me (Julie Robertson) actually designed a whole new vsd type saddle for my lad as he has no withers, is extremely wide and has huge shoulders. There are pics of him on my profile.

Saddle was worth every penny for the way he goes in it. I'll never go anywhere else now.

Cant believe youre still banging on about this. I know another side to this story. Change the record and stop being so vindictive.

Old boy was as wide / tall and a tank. I did like the Wintec Endurance type saddle but I remember the hair sticking to it(he was cremello/palamino) so I ended up with a GP Morris and Nolan. Even though I am horseless I am hanging onto the saddle as I like cobs(you can see where this is going) and I hope one day to find a cob that fits my lovely saddle!

No I am keeping it as I know how hard it was to find a wider saddle. Comfy for my big butt too.Oh and reading the thread I fitted all by myself!
