Horse is currently wearing a MW Albion dressage saddle which sits ever so slightly low on him, but it's minimal and with reflocking will fit nice. Now trying to find a GP/VSD for him. Saddler came out but didn't have any to fit him. He has quite pronounced withers and saddler said he needed a cut back pommel and only Albion would be likely to fit him, possibly Black Country. Tried friend's MW Black Country on him today but it was too narrow and sat far too high.

Any suggestions on brands likely to fit him and where to go to find one not too far from Surrey as dont want to buy on ebay in case it arrives and doesnt fit!

I posted a few days ago re dressage saddles for a high withered horse and suggestions were black country (which you know about) but also the Ideal Suzanna which is specifically for high withered horses - so Ideal will almost certainly have a GP model for high withered horses too

I have found Stubbens (modern-ish ones) to be good on high withered horses - but i've only really had thoroughbred types not a wider type of horse.

Ideal are very good - I've known the international event fit everything from roly poly cobs to hatrack TB's well - with different sizings of course.

I've just had Ken Lyndon Dykes out from kent over to Surrey to fit saddles, as he has much more second hand stock of 'quality' saddles than most saddlers. There's a bit more call out fee though, since he is travelling quite a way.

eta. Kieffer make a lot of saddles w/ cut back head, and they are also very adjustable with help of a saddler - it's possible to use heat to keep re-moulding the tree to change with the horse changing.

Id reckonmend a Barry Swain or Isabel Werth, both fitted my awkward high withered TB - wouldnt touch an Albion again, horses back got v tight and sore in at Kontrol jumping saddle.
I would be weiry of a saddler that narrowed down the fit of a horse just to 1 brand.

You could try Martin Wilkinson, in Herts not Surrey but a quick trip round the M25, they have a good couple of hundred saddles in stock you can go and have a look and a chat with them before booking a fitting. They do Ideal saddles, although my cob in in an Albion, he does have withers and it was either an Albion or Ideal for him, just the Albion second hand came up first. I have also ridden a high withered TB in a Kieffer and it was lovely and he had very high withers, fitted very well.

I had a collegiate VSD type saddle before I sold it. It had a cut back head and it was leather with an adjustible gullet and can be flocked so they are really adjustible. Maybe a collegiate would be an option?
I know have an ideal dressage saddle, it doesn't have a cut back head but it fits my TB who has wierd withers.

I would not ride in anything but Albions if I could afford it - they fit my TB perfectly. However, couldn't afford the Albion K2 dressage when I was buying a new saddle so I have an Ideal Jessica which fits perfectly. Don't know where in Surrey you are but Guy from Chobham Rider supplied and fitted mine and I was really pleased with it.
