Following on from my trying to feed up a skinny TB who currently weighs 420KG what are we aiming for weight wise?

It would be interesting to know what your 16hh ish Tb's weigh at a healthy weight.

Many thanks

My mare is a 16.1hh TB. When she went on the weighbridge as a skinny she was 480kg. When she went on looking better she was 540kg. She looked perfect at this weight.....

Although I should add that my TB gelding was only 15.3hh and he weighed more than the mare as he was a much more thickset TB with a lot of bone....depends on what the build is as well...

She is not a chunky type but also not really fine. Hard to say looking her at the moment she is a slip of nothing.

She was raced, point to point and then a hunt horse so I guess she's a medium tb when in good health.

I think around 550 she would look a much bigger and healthier girl. My 15.1 Arab x Cob is perfect at 560kg ( weigh tape so not particularly accurate but I use it more as a gauge as to if she is going up or down .)

Newfie looks good at 375 - 400kg and he's 13.2hh!

When my 16.1hh short-coupled TB (takes a 6ft rug) went to the vet college for investigations following repeated colic attacks and associated weight loss, he weighed 475kg according to the weighbridge and was body scored at 3/3.5 out of 10. They told me we should be aiming at a weight of 525kg for him and a body score of 5/5.5 out of 10. I am pleased to report that a couple of months later we are well on the way to achieving that.

For a lw TB 960 lbs or thereabouts would have it looking decent. For a mw around 1,100 lbs is a healthy weight and 1,200 lbs for one of the old line solid TBs. So yes you have the right ideal of weight if you're aiming for 550kgs (around 1,100lbs)

Lilly (who is a bit taller but a light ish tb) was 510 on the scales at the vet and is a good weight for winter. Think the fattest she would be would be around the 550 mark

My TB is 16.2hh & lightweight.
At best he weighs 520kg(when out all the time in the summer).
He's lighter than that at the moment but fit & muscled & looks fine.
I think he's programmed to not go over 520kg ish as 3 times in the space of less than a year he lost significant amount of weight(medical issues) & I got the weight back on each time fairly quickly but he then the weight gain just seems to grind to a halt & heeats the same but doesn't gain anymore!

My 16hh ish (chunkier type) tb weighs about 500kg, at the end of the last event season he was more like 475kg.

My 15.3 is 450kg on a weigh bridge and is about right. She isn't a particularly chunky model but she wouldn't be the finest you'd come across either!

My 16 2 tb is about 560kg which is an ideal weight for him. He takes a 6 6 rug and has just under 9 inches of bone and huge shoulders.
When he was on box rest he went up to 580kg and did look a bit on the porky side.
I weighed him every chance I could and compared it to my weightape which is consistently 25 - 30kg less than his actual weight.

Thank you so much for your replies. I shall weigh tape her again Friday and hope we see a small gain so at least I know we are improving.

I think I will aim to get above the 500kg and see how she looks.

She is in a 6ft 3 rug but I am not sure of her bone.

She is certainly looking more alert and bright now which is a relief.

My mare (who is a ISH but has TB body) who is 15.3 went on a weigh bridge on Monday and weighed 523kg she looks ok but could do with putting on some pounds!
