We've just cleared 5 acres and split into four paddocks, and had to put 5 strands of electric fencing (rope) all around each of them because of shitland sheep. The grass is touching the lowest strand, it has to be that low! Whatever earth spike you have, hammer it down well! I've got a Rutland ESD3200 energiser and that's reading at 6 with that much to go through and grass touching. No escapees yet, and those woolly devils are pro's at it!

My mains energiser max output with out any drain but remember you lose the currant the greater amount of conductor, is 7.4 fully loaded with conductor, at least three strands on 14 acres. If it goes below 5.4, then I start to worry, usually its due to bramble and hawthorne hedge growth.
