At The Edenbridge and Oxted show last weekend, we entered the welsh sec b, and after the rosettes were given out, the judge spoke to all of the handlers in a group, saying that rightly a welsh pony should not have a straight cut tail.
So what should he have, and how do I achieve it?

The tail should be feathered, rather than 'banged' accross the bottom. The easist way to achive this is using a thinning rake and run it down the tail, if you haven't got one of these a sharp pen-knife can be used. It is useful to have somebody else watching you do it to stop you getting carried away. the picture below is one of out three year old cobs, we have probably trimmed it a little shorter than a B and def shorter than ridden but we felt it gave a balanced picture, sepecially when she flagged her tail. Hope this is of some use.
