my horse has been off since december, due to rider injury, he is 6yr old and was jumping 1m20 ish is there a kind of plan i should follow to get he back to where he was? some people have told me 6 weeks of walk, some people have told me one week of walk etc and im not sure what i should be doing really any advice helpful = thankyou :)

I am bringing my horse back into work after 2 months off. i have done a week of walking and now am doing trot and had a canter today (but wasnt my choice) i will probably start cantering next week then just carry on as normal, i would let your horse choose the pace, if you have had him for a while you should know when he is ready :)

the only problem with this is he is one of the most placid horses ever, if he was allowed to just walk for the next year then he would! :)

Hummmm....not so easy then :) i would give him a couple of weeks of hacking about at walk and trot nothing too strenuous then just start cranking up the pressure. You need to start getting fitter again and its not going to happen walking for 10 minutes a day for 6 weeks, which is what people on my yard seem to think i should be doing

haha same on my yard :) yes i will give this ago thankyou :)

I know i dont understand it!! My horse would just get bored and start acting up if all i did was walk. and i would quite like to get out competing this summer. Hope it all goes well :)

if this were me....I would be walking for at least 2 weeks....making sure he stretches down at times (assuming you will ride 4/5 times pw)

Then gradually bring in some trot and circles. The problem with youngsters is that they would happily do what is asked of them even when they are not ready...the slower you take it the less chance of injury.

I didn't word that very well! I meant injury in his back or his legs due to working too hard too quickly! I've seen it happen dozens of times! It takes time to build muscle and if they are lacking then they are resourceful and use muscles they shouldn't.

I would take it slow, make sure exercise is regular, glad you are getting back in the saddle!
