I can't decide at the moment. I think I'm right in saying that if he was shown it would be correct to have his mane long and natural however i don't show and his conformation isn't good enough, also people don't actually think he's a connie anyway!! I would however like to do some local level working hunters at some point. Other than that i do all riding club stuff. So do i leave it and let it grow (its thick), or pull it but leave it long or pull it short? Bear in mind if it's long and thick i can't plait it without having enormous golf balls so he'd have to do dressage unplaited.

Examples:

Long-ish but hacked underneath to get it to lie on one side:

Natural, has a tendency to flop both sides:

Cut short:

Pulled short:

Plaited:

Thanks

Noooo don't hog it! He doesn't look the type which would suit being hogged. I would pull it short as pulling it will thin it out too. It looks lovely in the last photo where he is all plaited up!

Lol no don't think i could hog it!!!

If he looks the best plaited then i will pull it, i hate pulling but he's fairly good with it!

I like it in the second picture for two reasons:

1) My horse also has a mane that has a tendency to flop both sides & I love it (not really a good reason for your purposes!

2) It is an absolutely gorgeous photo - you both look fantastic (also not a good reason for your purposes!

So not very helpful!

Connies should be shown unplaited but they do not have to have a "natural" (long) mane, it can be tidied and made to look neat

But he looks best with pulled mane

Cool - interesting to know thanks.

Most votes for pulled then i think!

Au natural for me - perhaps pulled a little to tidy... Can I say how amazing he is looking in some of those pics, like a completely different horse. I also want to have dressage legs like you

I'm highly confused now!!! I was planning to try some of the wide dressage plaits, hence the long, thin idea but if that doesn't work maybe I'll tidy it up a bit!!

Thanks for the compliment but you wouldn't say that if u knew how hard it was to get cheap saddles to fit us both!! I finally found a jumping saddle to get my knees in and now I think it's moving and need to get the saddler back out!
