Hi there next year I am joining the army and have a lovley little pony. He is 15 at the moment but will be 16 when I leave. I am not sure what to do with him? He is not to be sold under any circumstances as I have had him for 8 years and he's my baby. I would love to loan him out but I don't want him to leave home. I was thinking I could get someone just to ride and care as like he's their own and they won't have to pay? Would you think this would be suitable? As he is stabled at home my mom and dad will obviously being doing the basic care for him feed, mucking out ect. I just don't want him to go to waste that's all. Thanks for your opinions :)

I would let someone come and do all of the care but have your parents on hand just to keep an eye on things. I think it would be overgenerous to meet all of the costs. Loaning from your home would be the best bet as long as your parents dont mind having someone else around the place

Sounds a good idea to me. I would do a home loan. Perhaps the person can contribute to some shoes? At least. But then your horse continues under the watchful supervision of your parents. I have done something similar but not a loan. Just someone who wanted to ride.

Do a trial period to make sure the person can ride and is suitable. Good luck.Ps perhaps also make it clear that you may want to ie ride once week when you are on leave.

Okay thanks for the replies I think I'm going to do a home loan. Pony is very easy to care for and is bare foot ;) I will do a trial period obviously and make sure pony gets on well with the new rider and that they treat him well as he's been through a lot... Thank you for your help :)
