Hello I have recently moved my boy to a new yard and have started having dressage lessons on him about 3-4 days a week and hacking 1-2 times a week. He is stabled day and night as there is limited grazing there but does go out when the fields are dry. He has 1 stubbs scoop of Dengie good doer, 1 stubbs scoop of apple chaff, 1 stubbs scoop of traditional meadow mix, a bit of salt and a bit of garlic with cut up carrots. He gets that twice a day with 3 half nets of haylege. I dont want to up his hayledge because of the risk of laminitis and he coughs a little so i dont want to give him hay. He is a 14.3 welsh cob cross tb. Can someone please give me some ideas on what to feed him as he is getting a bit ribby?
Thank you :)

What condition score is he? Any health problems?

I've stopped feeding the apple chaff because of the sugar and starch it in. Garlic can also make them anemic.

For me, alfa a molasses free if he can tolerate alfalfa, micronised linseed, fast fibre or speedi beet if he has lost quite a bit of weight or is a poor dooer, a balancer or general supplement like codlivine and the salt and ad lib hay.

he is 'good' score for condition but is starting to loose weight. He has no health problems but is starting to cough a little and has a stallion like crest on his neck that was very fatty when i got him but i have been able to keep it down. as i said i dont want him having too much hayledge because of laminitis but because of his cough i dont really want him having hay.

Sorry, skim read post. Could try soaking the nets for 2 hours for his respiratory or double netting to make the nets last longer? Micronised linseed from Charnwood Milling is fantastic for weight gain without the risk of lamminitis, no sugar and only 3.7% starch. The same goes with the molasses free alfa a, little sugar and starch. Fast fibre is good for quick fibre in a high oil feed.
