Someone once told me that if a horse had a whirl on his face then he must be a gelding ... Also for years I really did believe that the average horse cost £14000 (as opposed to £2000, which was the average cost for an average horse at the time) ... I even nearly fell out with some fellow horsey friends over it!

HAHAH! I wonder what would happen if you really did that! Scary to think what people write!

Do you know what!!!! I reckon it would stop! If you were running flat out and someone covered your eyes, your instinct would be to stop??

I used to think that there was a button on a horses sides that riders kicked to make them go, and I also thought that you took bacon off pigs backs and it didn't hurt them and they carried on growing more lol:eek:

LOL!!

re eye covering...maybe! I kinda want to try, but I value my life too much incase it goes wrong XD
That said, I once saw a horse in a field, who'd got it's rug right over it's head...it just galloped and galloped, crashing through one fence and it finally stopped when it went head over heals over another! The rug ripped off and it was fine, thank goodness!

I think this is what the writer was thinking. However, I'm sure if I tried to reach far enough to cover the eyes of a galloping horse I was sitting on, I'd be on the floor a long time before he stopped! :D

Ah... that rather confirms what a bad idea it would be. Not that I've ever been tempted to test it!

I vote for the girl who can fling herself off the side of her horse almost and still recover to get back in the plate and gallop onwards! She has to be in pole position.

My mum was a frequent extra on that show - apparently that horse was horrible! They had to hold its leg up to keep it still in some shots ;) - but I guess that means you were right all along!

I believed all ponies were young horses that just needed to grow

Entering the WH SMITHS " win a pony " competition would guarentee you would win lol

Anyone remember the advert for it with the neighing postbox ?!

A girl at my childhood yard actually won that comp! She won a little grey Highland - type gelding and called him Titus. I am ashamed to say a few of us kids nicknamed him 'Tight Arse' :D :D I'm pretty sure she got tack. rugs and everything for this pony as part of the prize, but it was 40 years ago!

When I first started reading horsy reference books when I was quite young (I was an avid reader of anything and everything!) I misread 'thoroughbred' as 'tough breed'.. quite a bit off the mark, hahahaha.. poor TBs.

Stallions came in either black or white (as if you ordered them!) and to be able to 'get' one, you had to be famous!!

Where I got that from?? - the minds of a little girl!!

After watching National velvet. I honestly thought when I got my first horse, I could just ride across all of suffolk from field to field, jumping walls, fences ditches etc.
